What Brand (10-30) Oil Do You Use And Why?

I own a mobil service station and i run Royal Purple 10W-30 in my car. I used to run the mobil 1. When switch from mobil to royal purple there was about a 20 degree drop in the oil temp. The mobil 1 does not compare to Royal Purple. I would run royal purple!!

Mobil one. I used some 20/50 shaefer once, didn't think it would be any big deal with the different viscosity but the lifters were definately more noisy. Went back w/ the 10/30 and all was good.

I use Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 because it is has excellent used oil analysis with low wear numbers. It also has the benefit of fast flow on start up. I also use it because I live in Georgia where it gets in the 90's during the summer and I can benefit from slightly thicker oil. Delvac is also less likely to shear and fall out of grade like other oils. The EVO service manual states that you can go as high as a 20w-50 in hotter climates. I have also not seen a decrease in my gas mileage while using Delvac. This oil is also made for high stress diesel engines with extended drain intervals so I know this oil will withstand the beating that a 4g63t motor will through at it.

Most of the reviews and tests that I have seen all seem to indicate very little difference between the modern w30 and w40 synthetics (weight wise not cold start). Can you guys point me to anything that would show some real world advantages to running a heavier weight oil?
BTW Event Horizon, you said you haven't seen much of a decrease in your MPG. What kind of mileage do get?

Mobile 1. I use it because it is relatively cheap and I change it every 6 months (I have 22k on my "03"). I usually compare oils based on my fuel consumption. When I switched from Castrol GTX to full syn. I gained almost 2 MPG. When I bought the EVO, I went over to M1 and have not observe any differences.

Back to what you were asking though. Oils with higher viscocities usually protect the lower end of the engine like the bearings. However, if the viscocity is too high, you can increase the wear in the valve trian. The trick is to find an oil that will protect the whole engine. Thats why its usually best to stick with what the manufacture suggests. For example, people who live in climates that see temps below freezing, its best to use a 5w-30. For milder climates where temps bump 32F they are best to use a 10w-30. I belive in the service manual, if you live in very hot climates you can run a 20w-50. I use a 5w-40 because it is a great in between oil. It can get both very cold and very hot in Georgia. Also, most other countries run a 5w-40 or heavier in the EVO.
Also, you have to understand that 5w-30 and 10w-30 are recommended usually because of the government and fuel economey requirements. It just doesn't mean its the best for your engine.
