I have used toluene in my last couple cars. I like to use it to "spike" what 93 I have left in the tank and then add VP103 on top of it. I would keep the mix about 3gal93/1gal toluene. If you are going any stronger of a mix you should add a couple cap fulls of Marvel Mystery oil to help lubricate it since it is somewhat abrasive. If you use xylene you should add the mystery oil no matter how much you use because the xylene is a little more hardcore than the toluene. Race Gas is still your best bet but if you don't have access to it the toluene will get the job done.

Just so you know, the old turbocharged F1 cars of the late 80's ran 85% toluene and the other 15% was just additive's.

Don't be afraid to try new things.

Thanks for all the input! Didn't know that so many EvoM'ers had experience with it.

The last time I visited Cali (3 years ago) I used toluene to keep my flashed T-bird from pinging. I bought it for $2.20 a gallon at a Standard Brands paint outlet (premium was $2.10 at the time)

I went and bought some at a paint store but it was like 16 bucks a gallon or something crazy like that. If I could find Xylene for like 5 bucks a gallon I would be happy.

Last monts Super Street magazine had an even better article on octane , octane boosters, race gas etc. Theres a new octane booster Gold Eagle 104+, that raises a tank of gas a full 3 numbers not points. No MMT's, very clean burning, and safe to use. Won't foul plugs, emision systems, cats, or O2 sensors.

if you wanna run more... you can put a bottle of auto transmission fluid in... and it could put in the necessary lubes. at least that's what my friend does (this is not a friend of a friend... this is a direct friend i talk to everyday). i was gonna run toluene... but it's so damn hard to find it for a good price ANYWHERE.
I get mine at Sherman Williams for $30 for a 5 gallon jug.

see the sherman williams aroudn here end up quoting me like 6-7 bucks a gallon... and that's just too much... considering i can get 111 octane for like 4.80 a gallon... even for 55 gallon drums... sometimes for the drum it ends up being 9 dollars a gallon and that's just ridiculous!

but in scc this month they left a number for a race fuel place that sells toluene... so maybe i'll look into that.

rocket brand racing fuel 714-694-1286

Just got back from Sherwin-Williams down here in SA TX and got a five gallon can for 40.00. That was with a 20% discount since I opened up an account with them. If they approve the account, I'll receive 25% off of future purchases.

I put a couple of gallons in at a half a tank and then added another 4.5 gallons so I figure at best I'm running about 11.5 to 12 gallons of 93 Octane and 2 gallons of Xylene at 117 Octane. With the handy dandy fuel calculator that I found online it looks like I'm netting about 96 Octane.

Later on tonight I'll go for a spin and see if there is any difference noted. I'm running the PowerFC standalone so I guess I should probably advance the timing by a degree at a time and monitor for knock. Will post the results later on.......

Keep your fingers crossed..... :-)

On another note... don't be too surprised if a "Detective" shows up/calls, and asks some questions if you start going through 5 gallon cans frequently. The stuff is also used in making illicit substances. I personally was not contacted, but an acquaintance of mine (not accomplice ) was. Pretty funny. The questions came to an abrupt end when he produced a fist full of recent time slips.

Sorry for reviving an old post but do you mean to say that we should add ATF to the fuel tank along with the toluene?
