Yeah, the 05 feels much faster than the 03 stock for stock. I feel down low the 05 has more torques than my modded 03 evo with stage 1+ under 3500 rpms

Now I'd bet the evo IX will have the same effect with mivec and redesigen turbo housing.

oh the evo 9 will feel a lot better. Doesn't it also have a shorter gearing on the 5spd? Along with mivec that adds 5-10hp across the powerband, I think it'll feel a lot better.

05's run 20.8 pounds from stock, as apposed to the 18.5 to an 03/04. that would make a difference. The 05's ACD also pull a bit harder around a corner, so taht would do a bit better.

Has computers in it that tell it where to put the power. then there is a hydralic clutch system that transfers power from the front to the rear. its kind SICK!

I Think the 2PSI higher boost and the HOTSide will make the the 05 pull more because it spools faster and also has more room to breathe.

Well just because I am slightly pissed I drove another 05 this weekend. Its definatly faster. The way my woman puts it is: "The 05 gives me butterflies when you get on it in first or second"

As for the butt dyno......okay I'll skip the number but it is without a doubt faster.

I am less angry about the shifting......though both 05s were much smoother than the three 03's I have driven.

Its good to hear that boost is higher on the 05.... I guess a tune will fix that. How big of a deal is the hotside? I am willing to make invisable upgrades but I want to stay in stock class.

uhm thats to be expected, your dynoflash is holding peak boost all the way to redline while the stock 05 is tapering + your TBE is flowing better at high rpms giving it more horsepower compared to the restrictive stock exhaust, and although more backpressure produced by the stock exhaust produces a bit more low end torque (combined with the 10.5 hotside this makes it feel better off the line like you said), it takes away much more at the top end. so i dont see any reason to call an 05 "super slow" from your experiences, this is exactly how it should compare.

A lot of it depends on the individual car. There have been differences of as much as 50 hp that I have seen on this forum from people dynoing stock evos. Yours might be one of the lower ones or the 05 you drove might have been one of the higher ones.

It was very noticeable to the driver but even more noticable as a passenger. My girlfriend and I switched places and I have to say I want my 03 to have the nuts the 05's have. Question: Other than the hotside change where is all this additional power coming from? Is it in the tune? Is it boost? I know my engine is healthy (compression, plugs, ect). I have ridden in other 03's and they feel the same as mine but between the 05 and 03 it was a night and day difference.

As for handling...I did put the 05 into a few skids and it was better handling but it wasn't as significant as the power levels.

The only other noticable difference was the shifting. The clutch and shifting felt much smoother and less jerky than my 03.

Now please tell me where this 05 power is coming from!
I don't know about 30whp, but 30bhp is pretty close. There are 2 statistics that can be referred to time and time again:

1) 05s are dyno'ing around 20hp higher on average than 03/04s.
2) 05s are trapping at 104-105 instead of 101-102.

Individually, these statistics aren't very useful, but when you see both on a recurring basis, it's becomes much more valid. The fact that I ran 104mph on my FIRST try ever with the MR is a good indication as to its power. I had a bad 60' and didn't do anything special, so that 104mph was an easily repeatable mph at 500' above sea level.

Then, with just some fuel removed above 5k rpm, I ran 106mph. This, again, is a good indication of how much stronger the 05s are. This extra power comes from the larger hotside AND the increased stock boost (1.4bar=20.3psi).

just get a boost controller and or flash retune and buy a 10.5 hotside dude... the hotside is 235 bucks at forcedperformance.com.... u will be just like an '05, throw a turboback on there, a fuel pump, up the boost some and u'll be whoopin ***...

I owned an 03 before which was tuned with a TBE, MBC, SAFC.... and now own an 05. At first when I got into my 05 after break in there was of course the noticeable stock boost taper again, but the mid range torque increase was definitely noticeable, not to mention that the 05 was spiking to a boost level higher than what my 03 was tuned at....

with just a Works P2R Brainflash and works drop in filter, the boost taper has been removed and the car is already pulling very hard all the way up....seems to already be quicker than my 03 w/ the mods....

I'm looking forward to putting on turboback but to be honest the power right now is already keeping me happy!
