cheap cobra radar detector works?

it's on sale at Circuit city for $40....6 band only. Does this work? better than having no radar detector at all? i'm planning to mount it on left top most windshield, would it work good there too? did the search and none covers this particular model ( i guess coz it's too cheap but i don't want to spend for more expensive and better ones like Bel,V1 and escorts)...pls comment

You will get what you pay for......delayed response, shorter warnings, more false alarms compared to a Valentine or other quality detector. I have a Cobra that I paid $80 dollars for that I keep in my wifes car and take with me when I fly somewhere, and there is a huge difference. Most of the people who will tell you its fine and almost the same have never used a better detector.

It'll "work" meaning it will let you know when you were hit. But as far as early warning, you are rolling the dice. I've had a cheaper ~$100 whistler and I now have a passport 8500, no comparison. Driving down to FL on I75 and I95, everytime it goes off you'll see a cop a little later. The biggest difference between the cheaper ones and the quality ones are the false warnings. Your cheap detector will constantly go off, going off so much that when it's a real cop you'll ignore it like it's another false warning.

ive owned a bunch of "cheap" radar detectors and i have 2 tickets 2 show for it. trust me if u want 2 put ur driving records<points> in risk and insurance rates in the hands of the "cheap<under $299> radar detectors go ahead, but for me and probably 90% of Evo owners we go w/ V1 or Escorts!

the cobra works for me.. the x band is worthless.. always goes off, but then ill get k or ka voice warnings and i know to immediately slow down.. i always see a cop within 30 seonds or so.. there are some spots around town that set off these sensors though. Its true you get what you pay for.. wish i had a nice unit but if your not speeding that much the cobra is fine.

i bought the one cobra with laser, voice alert and compass and all that stuff on it for like $200.

if it wasn't for the compass, i would of thrown that out already.

they don't work, it's just annoying.

not worth it, get a valentine or passport, spend some money.

I have one and it works, just not as well as the expensive ones. I keep meaning to buy a better one, but that money keeps going into car parts.

i hada cobra with the bling bling ":VOICE ALERTS" blah blah..after santa got me a v1 for x-mas....man im never going back. I got longer ranges on the warning, plus its a big plus to know what direction hes coming from. Might not be worth the money for some of you, but if you can afford the v1 id get it. Or buy a $89 detector and know that sometimews it wont work or give falsse alarms but to each their own
