I just installed a brand new autometer electronic boost gauge. I took her out for a few passes and I was surprised. 1st gear spiked at 22 psi and feel to 16.5 psi around 6000 rpm and second gear spiked to 23 and fell to 19 psi at 6000 rpm I know this car feel faster than my 04 I previously had. Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on here? Do I have a ringer or Is my gauge crazy? The car is an 05 gsr with 700 miles and has a mr bov otherwise bone stock.

Honestly, besides verifying your gauge is accurate, you'll have to get your car on a dyno to know for sure, preferrably one who has dyno'ed other similar stock evos..

Its not unusual to see higher than normal ranges of boost on some evos, when my 03 was bone stock and a few months old, I ran a 12.93, which I got alot of flak for. I later discovered after installing my boost gauge that the boost would spike go to 21psi, then drop slightly to around 19 or so.. Later I found there was a legitimate reason, it had a defective boost control solenoid and a small cut in the boost line to the solenoid just before the restrictor. When I brought my car to the dealer, and I got it back (when it was new) the car suddenly felt weaker, and I had noticed that they also noticed there was this problem in the line and bad solenoid, and replaced the parts without mentioning it (under warranty)

You have two options to figure out for sure if the car is running stronger, get it to the track (but don't abuse it) or get it on a dyno.

My question is what are suppose to be the stock boost levels on 2005 gsr evo? I know that they run higher boost than the 03 and 04's. By the way I just checked today and my car spikes up to 22 or 23 depending on gear and falls down to 18.5 at aroung 5500 to 6000 rpm. It could possibly be normal. By the way the autometer gauge is electronic and has a map sensor. I highly doubt its the gauge. By the way the car idles at around 19 to 19.5 inches of vacuum and decels to around 24 to 25 inches of vacuum.

don't buy autometer booster gauge. they are all read wrong!
buy DFI or stock OE gauge.

sounds like someone has replaced your boost lines and the stock pills are not in there anymore. This may seem nice now but can be a problem when it becomes cold. The instant that it hits 24 psi you are going to hit fuel cut unless your computer is flashed. I would recommend a mbc and steady out your boost to around 21 psi.

What you are seeing is normal for the 2005 EVO's.

Based on what we've seen, I would agree with this statement. The WORKS MR would spike much higher than our other EVOs before we flashed it. I believe the quoted boost level for '05 models is 20.3 PSI and tapering down from there. Momentary spikes will go above that threshold, but shouldn't be a concern unless it holds that level for more than a fraction of a second.

Not true at all. I have an autometer that is dead nuts accurate.
