hey guys, im gona get an evo IX when they come out, ijust looove these cars!!!

but somejerk was talkin crap on it telling me that 1. the evo has a knock sensor that he can set off with his big V8 exhaust which will send my car into "limp mode" where he will proceed to whoop my ***

is this true???

and two, he said in reponse to me telling him the 0-60 of the evo "yeah well thats it, once you get to 80 your car wont pull at all and even a geo metro will be able to kick your ***"

so this guy has some serious issues but what is the truth to these statements...

does the evo loose power in the top end and whats the knock sensor bs?

1. The first part is write but it doesnt send it to limp mode.

2 thats BULL**** my car has about 1,200 worth of mods and I will get to 160 in less than a mile! Now it doesnt pull like A turbo V6 or a v8 but once u get 272 cams it will pull like no other!

 

u serious limp mode...didnt know there were "modes" on the evo lol dont listen to him just some jerk with a V-8 who thinks bigger is better...

its been known to happen that if your at a light and you have a harley or something with loud pipes it can set off your knock sensor... and as far as losing power in the top end he is correct its called boost taper.. its worst in 03's.. 05 not nearly as bad.. so that jerk did have some knowledge, maybe he was ignorant the way he told you or you just didnt want to hear it.. knock sensor do a search i read 2 threads last week with people having this prob..

 

what is this "limp mode" haha..yeah i dont have any mods as of yet but my RS still pulls seems fast to me but idk..i am planning on just getting some bolt-on mods noting crazy

Well, he's right about both, but he exaggerated:

1) This can happen if the noise is so loud that it causes enough air turbulence to fool the knock sensor. I haven't had it happen to me, though, after 5 trips to the drag strip.

2) Well, yeah, we have a built-in boost taper at high rpm, and we are AWD. The Evo makes its money in acceleration from stops and/or coming out of turns/curves, not on straightaways. The Metro part is true if you put it in 6th gear (MR) at 15 miles an hour and floor it...

s4's can be beaten stock.. you have a modded car, he is buying stock.. he will get boost taper till he gets a b/c..

 

You aren't stock, man. Anybody can make a car faster with mods...

A stock Evo is weak on the top end...that's just how it is.
