I don't think there is any reason to gut/trash a perfectly good 2003+ evo just to hit a 10.
nor is there any need to do anything stupid like run without boost control, or tune it for one run wonder.
3400lb car needs atleast 450whp and ideal traction/driving to get 10.9 @ 125
This can be done safely, at full weight, repeatedly, and without damage to the car.
The EMS/full Exhaust/boost at 25psi on racegas has made 350whp for many evo guys already. Add the 100shot of nitrous and you are at the power goal for a realistic 10 second car. remember..nitrous cars et better than turbo only cars becuase of the better powerband.
you need traction. drag radials and clutch.
At full retail price for the parts off my website:
EMS $1789 with 3.5 bar map and ait sensors
AEM wideband $350
ACT clutch $525
NOS single fogger kit @ 100-125hp $525
walbro 255 $105
Tial bov $225
Hallman ES MBC $60
245 45 17 BFG drag radials ~$600 4 X $149.90 from summit racing
3" VRS turboback exhaust $650 aluminized steel, mandrel bent
$4829 total retail price.
IMHO the installation and tuning is never included in any kind of $ vs ET deal.
you don't need FMIC, ic pipes, intake pipe, injectors, turbo upgrade. Those items do not yeald as much of a power increase for what they cost retail.
Ill try and get back to the track this friday if I have time to change the clutch this week and take a crack at atleast running the bigger nitrous shot. I don't have time/$ to do the drag radials so will have to make due with kumho asx all seasons.
Will everyone be satisfied with say a 11.2 @ 123 without the good tires?

Not to sound sarcastic but the title to this thread was, "has anyone run 10's with $5000". Take a stock evo and you have 5K.........that will get you into the 11's. The cost of install and tuning should be averaged into the formula b/c your "average joe" is not able to tune an ems, or install cams and the like. Good luck on your run btw!

but if your going to include the cost of install and tuning. then the question really should be "Can EVERYONE go 10's with $5000".
The question was more about...it it possible to do this with $5000? The question was not...can this be done by the average joe with no experience?
if you have to factor in labor and tuning time...then the answer is absolutly no, never, nitrous or not.

DSM...your a big fan of nitrous Im assuming. How many passes have you made so far with nitrous? Eveyone on this board seems to be against nitrous....why? What do you think about that?
As far as the 10.9 for 5K....Whats the point? If you want to run a 10.9, spend the money to do it so that its repeatable and safe. If you want to do a 10.9 for 5K go buy a bike!

You can do it if you get free labor on custom fab...Drops the prices on thigs like exhuast, mani, IC piping, etc... DRAMATICALLY..
If you can tune yourself (and you should be able to if you want a 10 sec car) then you're also going to save an assload of money
