Has anyone run into the 10's with $5000

Hi,

I mentioned that it could be possible to run into the 10's(I am calling a 10.9s) with $5000. I read over and over and many of the 05 EVO 8 are running basicly 12 flat with mods between $1300and $2000.

Do you think is there any configuration(turbo, reflash,TB,alcohol injection, racegas , etc, etc) that could bring you into the 10's.

If you are running 10's but spent more than $5000 in other things I am only interested on the mods that would make the car running in the 10s, ie(clutch, slick tires, race gas, turbo) not including short antena, ganador mirrors etc, etc

Someone at the NASIOC forum says that is BS. I just want your opinion
Thanks!!

You might could do it once, but for it to be repeatable you would need to spend more than just 5k

I believe it is possible, especially with a 05 EVO model.

First thing is your going to need a strong EVO. Unfortunately not all EVOs are created equal, and getting a very strong EVO straight from the factory would help a lot. Also you need to be a very good driver, average or below average drivers need not apply. Stock, your car needs to run atleast 13.2@102-104MPH.

Turboback Exhaust $800

Manual Boost Controller $75

K&N Drop In Air Filter $75

UTEC Engine Management System $1,050

Intake and Exhaust Cams $600

White Rabbit Turbo $1,550

680 or 780 Fuel Injectors $380

Fuel Pump $100

Buschur Standard Intercooler Upgrade $650

Tuning $500

(Sorry went over by around $800)

This combo on race fuel with a good tune should net you 450-500WHP. That's enough for a trap speed of around 123-126MPH. Most drivers will only hit low to mid 11s with this trap speed, but a very good driver can hit 10s. The key component is the driver. Also IMO this was not possible a year ago (not unless you had mad hook ups), but the combination of the 2005s running very strong, cheaper turbos that make good power, and better tuning has made this possible.

I'm not sure about 10s, but I would think some sort of dump pipe, AEM EMS, big nasty intake, cams, alchy injection, and a tune would get you the best numbers for 5k.

2k for EMS and the tune
1k for cams and install
?? for dumpipe
?? intake
499 for alcohol injection

This would probably leave you around 800 bucks for misc stuff. I think you could definitely run high 11s with this setup, it wouldn't even be remotely legal, but if we're just talking track stuff, it'd be dope.

what are your chances of getting a strong evo?

thats a pretty big variable in the quest for tens....

Why bother staying street legal? Also, you didn't take into account labor (I'm decent with a wrench, but screw doing cams by yourself) or tuning, and correct me if I'm mistaken, you use the stock MAF sensor with the UTEC, which basically makes it very difficult to get past 400awhp, although I could be wrong on this topic.

The white rabbit makes good numbers, but I haven't seen dyno numbers from one that doesn't have EMS.

Yeah I agree with the White Rabbit, it's very important in this equation and we need to wait to see for more numbers, but so far I have been impressed with what is known about it so far. Not taking into account labor, most people don't, although I can see why it should be taken into account, but most people just don't count the cost of labor and I don't believe the author of story was either. Yeah it may be smart to shell out a little more for an AEM unit, which would bring cost for parts just over $6,000, I wonder if a custom flash or a piggyback system could be effective enough to get into the 10s? I realize most people are still thinking from a 2003 and 2004 EVO standpoint, I'm only thinking from a 2005 model. The 2005 models are running very strong.

Your right, most people will not get an extremely strong EVO, but some do, and so it is possible. Also, you don't have to have an extremely strong EVO, an average one will do, but driving skill is a must.

I bet I can do it with this parts list:
AEM EMS ~$1700 self tuned
Wideband $400
ACT clutch $500
NOS single fogger kit @ 100-125hp $500
walbro 255 $100
Tial bov $225
MBC $50
245 45 17 BFG drag radials ~$500
3" VRS turboback exhaust $800

rough total in price $4875, granted this would be a bare minimum in parts. you realisticly need a bottle heater, nitrous press gauge.

This is basicly the same combo that I have been running on my own car that has gone 11.52 @ 119 on crappy all season tires on a 45 shot. When I upped the nitrous to 80hp, it pushed through my worn ACT clutch, but still ran 11.50 @ 116. I have 850 injectors in the car that I really don't NEED if I were to run a wet kit. now I run the nitrous dry and bump the injector pulsewidth up with the ems when the nitrous is on, this woudn't work with stock injectors already running 95-100%DC.

If I got a set of drag radials, a fresh clutch that holds, and bumped the spray to 125 I have no doubts it could go 10's @ 125 run after run, so long as the bottle is full. without the nitrous, it runs in the 12.0-12.1 range @ 112-114.

Completely realistic to go 10's for less than $5000

Yeah but you can self-install and self-tune. The majority of people on here can't do that. That's something to consider as well.

BTW, I can't see it happening without nitrous. you gotta make 450+whp to run 125mph, that takes alot of well matched parts. The turbo upgrade eats almost 50% of the budget right there. A nitrous setup doesn't require as much "support mods". you can make that 100-150hp pretty easy and just use the most effective (cost wise) mods to maximize the stock turbo.

Yes you could do it if you really wanted to. Think about it. Stock turbo is capable on a relatively full weight car. So here is your price sheet:

GUT the car to about 2,800lbs. = $Free
Used AEM EMS (Others work but I know this would) = $1,200
C16 = $50
Some Nitrous setup = $600?
Remove the full turbo back exhaust = $Free
Tune yourself to unsafe levels that create gobs of power = $Free
Used Cams = $400
Used Fuel Pump = $70
no air filter or intake pipe = $Free
used upper/lower ic pipe + FMIC = $600
Used 1st Gen DSM BOV = $30

If needed:
Good clutch = $1200?
Port the turbo, manifold and o2 housing if you wish for free also.

And add slicks if you want but they arent needed at all.

Someone tell me why this wouldnt hit a 10 with a good driver

Total price = $2,950... or $4,150 if you need the clutch which i doubt you would to hit a high 10.

You would hit a ten... will the motor hold for very long... probably not but hey.. you got what you wanted for under $5k.

You dont need a boost controller because you are going to weld the wastegate shut
You could tune the car yourself perfectly fine if you could ever dream of hitting that 10.

And honestly, I think you could hit a low 10 with my setup... the weight savings would give you a ton. I would think you could get this car to be at least 450 to the ground and probably more if you really tune it to destruction and a car weighing in at 2800 lbs would surely be capable of a 10 at 450-500 hp... I would think more like a mid to low 10.

You also probably dont need the upper/lower ic pipes or the intercooler.
You also dont 'need' the blow off valve.. just dont use one at all and dont let off the gas
The fuel pump is iffy. The clutch I doubt you 'need'
You probably dont 'need' the cams either.

You could do amazing things if you just dont care.

Also, for DSMotorsports post.. he seems right on the money but I dont think you need the wideband... use someone elses for $50 to get it tuned or just dont really care... use the stock narrowband to get it 'close' After all, he said hit a 10.. not consistantly or safely
