Headlight resurfacing

How can i resurface the plastic on my headlight from the minor chips and scratches. 1500 sandpaper and buff it right?

i dont think sandpaper would be a good idea

i'd love to learn of a method... my stockers have burn marks on them caused by some sort of paint thinner... punks kids... any help would be appreciated. maybe evodave could enlighten us on this?

i tried sandpaper on a spare set before, and it didnt turn out nice, just sscratches it more, i used 1500, maybe an even finer sand paper

yea but 1500 paper is less gritty than a nail file. i figured if i just got the surface marks out and then buffed it with wax it might come out glossy.

tried what you said, and it doesnt work, but go ahead and try it, i just wont want you to mess up a good pair of head lights

depends on the scratch depth, the deeper the damage, the smaller #/grittier paper you want to start with, then work your way up to the most commonly available 1500grit silicon carbide paper. And finally buffing it with brasso, the liquid metal polish using a soft cotton like a old shirt- make sure everything is grit free.

There is a UV protection coating over the clear polycarbonate....removing that might cause premature yellowing/hazing.......
