Exhaust drone (in-cabin)

Just installed a Tanabe Ultra Medallion catback and the drone inside the car is extremely annoying! I got a headache just driving around town. Does everyone else have this annoying droning and how do you tolerate it? The silencer greatly reduces the noise but I can't see the point of spending all this money for a performance gain only to plug it up. Might as well stay with stock. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have an hks cat-back and so far no droning.........when I had a mustang I would crack the window open to cancel out some of the droning sound.

Stick the silencer in there for your daily commute. I have noticed that Tanabe exhuasts cause a lot of drone not just in the evos, but also in the civic/rsx/350z and probably others that I haven't heard.

You can try a resonated test pipe. Ill be trying that out this week or next to hopefully kill some of the drone on my Megan system

You could just cut a portion of your catback and weld on a resonator to kill some of the noise. Unfortunately, noise is a side-effect of having more power .....

Thats why I was saying a resonated test pipe. That way it's just a bolt-on affair and if it doesnt work he can just sell it. That is of course if he is able to run without a cat.

Have you thought of the possibility that he may want to keep his stock cat in place?

Yes, hence the last sentence in my post. I just thought it was a bit severe to have him hack up his brand new catback. That's just my opinion though...

I have a Tanabe Ultra Medalion. But I'm not hearing a drone that reverberates throughout the cabin. Tanabe is known for having a low, deep tone, maybe thats what you are hearing.

Good point MaxR, infact I forgot to point out that you'll hear a drone in your cabin if your catback is not properly/tightly bolted to your cat. Make sure you get that car on a lift and retighten those bolts ...

Even with 2 resonators, I have a slight drone. Nothing too bad though.
