Loose power with mesh-out FMIC?

Just traded in my 01 comptech supercharged S2000 for a brand new 05 black evo. Noice

I see some people black out their FMIC with sreen mesh from a door/window. Does one layer of this stuff significantly reduce airflow to the FMIC? Does anyone know for sure. I love the look of the evo, but dont really like view of the FMIC. Is it better to use a thin coat of black paint on the FMIC?

I am a newb, so I'll don the flame-proof suit just in case this has been covered elsewhere (I did search).

Also, anyone have the clear bra on their evo? Could someone direct me to a thead with info on this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Finally, My car has~150 miles on it and I havent been doing anyy bedding in procedures on the brakes. I checked the owners manual and it says just to not be too hard on them. I complained about the crappy brakes (had to really stomp on them to get it to slow down) on the test drive and the dealer said to give them a few hundred miles to bed in. Is there a bed in procedue for new stock brakes somewhere?

Glad to be part of the evo club Evo's rock.

Get the IC thermal coated if you want to black it out. That's going to be the "cleanest" way to get that stealth look for the IC.

Brakes, suffer through the factory pads and then get some good aftermarket pads.

Welcome! Ex-S2000 owner here as well (no blower though).

1. someone here did a IC. screen write-up, no doubt it decreases SOME efficiency, but prolly nothing you could quantify and prolly at higher speeds. Rocks have killed mine, however most of us use it as an excuse to upgrade. There is a thermal paint for intercoolers, i've seen it done ,sorry no info though.

2. Clear bras are good. No down side except $.
3. 3-4 days normal driving and the brakes will put you through the windshield. I experienced the same thing at the dealer. Especially coming out of an s2k.

maybe he wants to black out the I/C because he's an older guy and he doesnt appreciate all of the attention. the evo does look a little "boy race" stock so maybe he's trying to tone down the look. I see no problem with it. If it were me, I'd just paint the FMIC. The stock pads arent that great but are good for stockers so just upgrade the pads.

I dont mind the look of the FMIC (I had a huge honking one on my supercharged S2000), its being able to see the IC piping dipping down on both sides. Having a black evo, I just reckon it will look cool with it all blacked out. I am going to try it out at the weekend. Will take b4 and after pics if anyone is interested

Oh and for the record I am 31. It took me until 31 to be able to afford my dream car (the evo).

I bought my S already supercharged and had a lot of problems with it. The guy who installed the system unknowinly creased the air pipe running from the secondary air pump (part of the emissions system). This caused a CEL with a 411 code. Instead of searching for the problem, unbeknowing to me, he took out the CEL from the dash. Before I bought the car I asked a honda dealer to make sure it would pass NYS inspection, but they messed up and just did a safety check. Heres what it cost me over a period of 4 months, after which I sold the car

Sales tax $1400

Find source of CEL and have bulb replaced $500
New tires, hawk pads, battery ~$800

Then the ACT clutch went ~$1000
Ricks leather console upgrade $180

Then the aftermarket spoon diff started to make strange sounds, by which point I had enough

Cost of repairs etc ~$4000

Trading it in for a new evo....priceless

Anyway, there are loads of trouble-free supercharged S2000 on www.s2ki.com, I just got a bad one.

Plus side is that they really go and are scary to drive. A stock evo is no match for a supercharged S with FMIC (~290 whp running stock 5 psi pulley and weighs several hundred pounds less). Modded evo is a different story.

If you install the s/c kit with aftercooler (~$5500) and like to drive hard you will also definitely need to install

ACT or equiv clutch $1000
Compech reinforced diff (the stock diffs on these cannot hanldle FI) ~$600
Compech flywheel and diff gears are optional but add a lot more fun

So plan on spending a few extra $$$ to get the car set up properly.
