I understand the benefits of using synthetic and would never use anything else but why does a manufacturer make it manditory is my question? Is it for longevity? or a lucrative business partnership forcing Evo owners to use not only a synthetic oil but Mobile one on top of it.
Of course the Premium fuel's higher octane rating is safer (less knock) and more efficient in my turbo DSM. Could my car run on regular unleaded? Yes, just like your EVO could run on non-synthetic motor oil, but the fact remains that our cars will run better and last longer if we follow the manufacturer's specifications.

Guaranteed that if you spend a little more at the pump and buy that $6 a quart bottle vs the 20+ cents cheaper gas and $12 dollar for an $18 pack of oil, your car will outperform and outlast any other car using the lesser, even if you do beat it.
