NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 05V335000 Recall Date : JUL 25, 2005

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:HOSE

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1179

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE TURBO CHARGER COOLANT HOSE WAS INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED, AND MAY ALLOW COOLANT LEAKAGE.

Consequence:
IF A LEAK OCCURS, DURING VEHICLE OPERATION WHEN THE MANIFOLD IS HOT, COOLANT MAY IGNITE AND CAUSE A VEHICLE FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TURBO CHARGER COOLANT HOSE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON AUGUST 15, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 888-648-7820.

whoa...so it's official now? wow. So what should we do? Wait for them to contact us or go ahead with the contact first?

did you recieve something in the mail? or you readin something off the internet. Cause i know for my old gti it had a recall and i got something in the mail right away.

This sounds like its the inlet and/or outlet coolant hose from the turbo, not the main radiator hoses.

I wonder how hot that coolant is coming out of the turbo, and the hoses are right next to the plastic intake pipe, dont know.

i have had plenty of occasions of leaking coolant b4 in my other cars. not once did they catch on fire. different with the evo, i guess

yeah, I'm really not too worried about my coolant catching on fire; but loosing all of the coolant and burning up the engine is a different story. Since I will be at the dealer tommorow for a windshield replacement anyhow, I will ask about this recall and when I can get it done. Thanks for the info.

A recall doesn't mean that ALL 05 EVO VIII's are suceptible to this...the synchos in 2nd and 4th gear in the 03 models are known for issues, many though don't experience this...
