I was driving down the I-90 east bound near Canaan, NY by myself (no cars were around) and the cop was driving on the I-90 WEST bound. He was on a moving vehicle driving on the opposite side of the thruway. I was driving 70-75 mph at that time. My radar detector went off and I slowed to 69 mph. Speed limit is 65mph. That's a VERY VERY REASONABLE SPEED! The cop was driving at least I did not know he was doing to U-turn since I was not speeding. That **** (Not calling all cops a **** but that only specific cop) did make a U-turn. I passed down the toll booths and started driving. Out of no where, he pulled behind me and pulled me over. I am like WTF??? WTF did I do? Have a car better than a V8 crown vic???? He asked me for my license and registration. At that time, I really have no clue why he pulled me over. Was my car too low??? My Big wing??? My car's too yellow??? WTF???? He said I was speeding. Then I told him, how can you detect my speed? He replied "I was trained to detect your speed." Dumb@$$ didnt even understanbd my question. I asked him how not why. He gave me a ticket for 81 in a 65.
A cop is not supposed to run a radar check on his vehicle when it is moving. On the ticket, it says: DIrect Observation and speed checked by radar. You cannot use a radar gun on a moving vehicle!
What I think he did was when he was driving on the opposite side of the highway with his radar on. He was driving probably 80 mph or more and saw a speed of 161 on the radar reader. Then he subtracted his 80 from 161 and got my speed as 81 mph. YOU CANNOT DO THAT!!! Did he ever take freakin physics????? Now I gotta drive 5 hours to see his dickface and fight it.
You guys think I have a chance???

Ok man you need to get real. Suck you got a ticket and sucks worse that you were not trying to do wrong. But its life man. So add the facts up. You were speeding and now due to the way stuff works your are quilty untill you can prove your not. So I would man up and hit up the DA and talk to him/her. Tell them something else was on your mind and you just slipedup, tell them you have agreat record and this will hurt you big time. You want to show them your concerned and that you have learned from your mistake. Now they minght drop the ticket or alot of the time they will reduce it. You can also hit up a lawyer and have them ask for the ticket to be changed to a bad equipment situation. As if your speedo is wrong. I got a ticket for a 50mph in a 35 zone just 2 weeks ago. I have a great record so this was gonna cost. Heres the deal, im on a 45mph road I turn left onto another road there are no signs and im busted by the man. I was not trying to speed and honestly I dont think i was doing 50mph in the wife accord. But ****, the second that ticket is issued your quilty. Most lawyers will tell your what going to be the cost and insurance issues before you pay a dime to anyone. Also most cops in NC are trained to be able to judge the speed of a car visually and the radar is only a back up. The dude who pulled me didnot even have a radar he was just a chase car for another cop that seen me.

Off duty, you copper stoppers shouldn't be allowed to speed either.
You should have to adhere to all the same traffic laws as civilians do.
With all the same consequences and penalties.

Get a good lawyer and fight it. Get your lawyer to ask to see his certificate showing that the radar gun is calibrated and that his training is up to date. If he cant find either or if they are out of date, you win.

ask if u can go to driving school to keep it of your record, ive don that in a couple of counties, cheaper then a lawyer, also judges here stories all the time, i recently got slammed with 4 tickets by some cops trying to have a good time, bs charges, hired a lawer and he adviced me to play guilty and that i was sorry, cuz thats wat most judegs like to hear

you car is yellow, you will get a ticket, and you WILL pay for it... you shouldn't have bought a yellow car... i feel your pain and i also got screwed several times because i drove a yellow car... thats why i bought a white evo.... because it looks like every other car on the road...

i WILL plead guilty to speeding 69 in a 65 and I will say sorry to the judge but no way in hell am I pleading to this BS. dickcop probably thinks his crown vic is so fast. Damn I just wanna burn that freakin car. i shouldve exited right away and ran away. No way he couldve caught me. DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!! I didnt expect him to pull me over when I was not speeding. Well, BARELY speeding at 69

In the first thread you said "My radar went off and I slowed down to 69" How fast were you going before that??? Just get it fixed and which radar detector are you using, if it's a cheapy one you might as well throw that away too but you got caught, now you gotta pay. He probably clocked you the second your radar went off, alot of that instant on crap will burn you even with the best radar detector. It sux man, but I wouldn't try to fight it, it'll end up costing you more to fight then to pay a traffic law clinic or something to make it disapear.
Also try the Escort 8500 radar detector, $300 but first time it saves you it pays for it self.

Yeah, run away from the cops... until you look up and see the helicopter.
Im a cop in Cali, and the officers certified in Radar and LIDAR(look it up) go through extensive training. We are tested in our ability to judge a vehicles speed without any equipment, within in so many MPH. If we cant, we dont pass.
Anyways, If you want my advice... go to court, the officer might not show up (doubt it) and your case will be dismissed. Tell the judge you were doing 69 in a 65, not slowing down from a higher speed. Ask for leniency due to a) your good driving record, b) low speed in comparison to the speed limit, or c) lack of heavy traffic and/or time of day. Ask about the officers training, and last caliberation of his radar/lidar equipment... if he didnt already state it in his opening statement. None of this will probably get you out of the ticket, since by your own admission you were speeding (69 in 65 is still 4 over), but it will probably get the fee reduced.
Sorry about the rant, but if any needs court advice in cali, pm me.
