Evo or T/A

Hey whats up all, I have been reading this forums for quite a while. I have been gather up all the info I can on the new evo 9. I am at a bit of a dilema though. I dont know if I should get a new Evo (9) or just get a LS1 car. I know this is the evo forums and the opion would be biased but I would still like to hear your thoughts.

I want to break 11's in either car and basically the only thing holding my back is the price to do so on the evo. Some said it can be done for as little as 3g but how??

Also do they have release date for the new 9s?

Thanks for your help guys

PB

Your comparing two TOTALLY opposite cars...

If you JUST want to go fast in a straight line / run 11's then the LS1 is THE WAY to go...

If you want more than that then get the Evo...

The Evo is NOT meant to be a drag car.. people just love making it that way...

None of us know what the IX will be capable of or when it will be released.

To run 11s cheaply on an 05 EVO VIII GSR, you need:

TBE = $600 (megan)
Cams = $550 (HKS) + install
MBC = $85 (Hallman)
Tune = $200-400 (s-afc or flash)

If you pay for the cam install, that's around 2k, and you can hit 11s if you know how to drive, although you may tear up the stock clutch attempting it.

they might be a even match in the straights, but the EVO will walk away through the twistys, stop better, be more reliable, get better gas mileage, hold a better resale value, get more chicks, easier to wash, lol, etc... etc...

plus you get to hang out here and be cool like us. =)

Thanks for all the replies. I had no idea it was that easy to get the evo on the 11's. I was always looking at the package deals. I have always been an import fan and owner

Lexus IS300 modded
91 Mr2 Heavily modded
Dodge Stealth R/T TT modded

I dont want to go to the dark side of muscle cars and I dont think I will, especially after reading this.

Thanks
I was just having a moment of insanity.

PB

edit: Do any of you all take the evo out into snowy fields or anything, I think that would be 2 fun

You should forget them both and make your MR2 into a 800HP sleeper Honestly, too, there may be more people in your area who can help build up the TA than the Evo and fix it if it breaks...

If you want straight line performance get the LS1 hands down. If you like to do some spirited driving through twisties get the EVO. As for Drag Racing both cars have weak links. EVOs are known for Transfer cases going out and LS1s are know for having weak rear ends. Which ever car you chose as long as you upgrade the right parts you will be fine.

big loud v8s are awesome, but if you plan on doing anything besides 1/4 runs the evo is much better suited for you. yea you can make the evo a fast 1/4 mile car but thats not the purpose. if thats what youre into though, get something with an ls1. personally going fast through a turn is a lot more exciting than wathcing the pavement fly by

You sure on that list? BR stage4 is capable of hitting high 11's but it also includes a number of other parts: upper I/C piping, I/C, intake, fuel pump, and injectors. The parts you listed line up with a Vishnu stage 1+ or a BR stage 3 (minus IC and upper I/C piping) which both are good for low 12's.

I'm a little doubtful that the mods above will get you into the 11's. BR is the only tuner I know of that has hit 11's on the stock turbo. Maybe things have changed, I don't patrol the Engine forum as much as I used to, but I'm fairly certain you'll need more than the above.

Just for reference:
BR stage 4 is ~$4k + install
Vishnu stage1+ is ~$2400 + install (not certain on this figure)

Evos are pretty easy to tack on about 100-125 hp. After that, your PAYING BIG for more hp. And another thing, its going to cost more than 2k to run 11's. It just is. Your gonna have to get a boost gauge, clutch, fuel pump, intake, installation costs, custom dyno tuning, etc. Not to mention your gonna want other stuff like turbo timers, etc.

If you want a straight line car, get an LS1 or an 03/04 cobra. Thats what they are made for.

Edit: were made for.

That's highway cruising. I think he is referring to overall. Thirsty 8 vs. economical 4, pure logic.
