Was taught to always be in gear.... so I'm always downshifting, have been for many years.
This isn't true...... coasting in gear in EFI cars actually uses less gas than idling where gas is still used to keep the motor spinning. ....

Never heard that downshifting was bad for daily driving when performed correctly...
