Defi EGT Install

How hard can it be? I found out today how much of a PITA it can be. Picked up everything I needed and headed to a good friends house to do the install. Wiring was no problem, drilling manifold again no problem, threading the hole for the fitting, huge problem. No matter what we did the tap would not thread the hole. Went to NAPA and grabbed another 1/8 NPT tap for $17 and tried again. Grabs on first try and threading is complete. Put fitting in and tighten, no problem. Insert probe and tighten top half, problem, entire assembly is now spinning in place. Attempt to tighten bottom half and that is a no go, attempt to remove and it gets tight again. Left it there and tightened everything again fully expecting it to leak. Start car and drive around and so far so good no leaking. If I drank I would definitely say it is time for a . Sorry, but I had to let off some steam.
Luckily the instructions on here and Evomoto were great and made my life a little easier. Thanks evolutionm.net

Have you checked the thing to see if it's loosened up again? Sounds like in the midst of tightening the probe down, you stripped the tap hole.

Just for my info, did you do the idle/tap thing as suggested on evomoto?

Yeah it's definitely gonna burn me up, not looking forward to it.

Well if everything seems secure right now, I'd keep checking on it every so often, you want to make sure it doesn't fall through or anything like that... or get blown out for that matter.

I was wondering if it could be welded in. Does anyone know?

i had some similar problems doing mine. i think i ended up stripping my tapped hole because i didn't work the tap the whole way down as far as it could go. so when i went to put the bung in it didn't tighten the whole way and i ended up stripping it. right now it's on there and not leaking, but it's not tightened as much as it could be.

Of course but you would probably see it break off at the weld in the not-so-distant future. Just keep an eye on it and your gauge... or you may want to source a 2nd oem manifold and tap that outside the car, then reinstall just to be safe.

I just followed the instructions on Evomoto and everything went fine. No problems drilling or tapping the hole.

Now that would be a huge PITA. Already have one just in case though.

I don't have the time right now, lucked out with an early day today. Not normal for me though. I might have it done and get a thermal coating too.
