You have to thread the bung BEFORE coating or you'll mess up the coating.

Are you coating inside and out or just outside?

I would thread the hole, put a plug in there, get it coated, razor blade the edges of the plug, and remove the plug. Make sure to run a tap back through the threads afterwards to remove any ceramic build up.

Or you could drill the hole not tap it. Get it coated, then tap it.

better to drill/tap it prior to coating, and re-tap it after coating, to clear the threads. I did an egt probe after coating, and you'd really have to try hard to screw up the coating by installing an egt probe, but I guess it could be done.

I do ceramic coating and the answer is it can be done both ways. The best way however is to tap it before coating. The person coating the manifold will put a rubber plug to protect the threads during the ceramic coating process.

I didn't mean to bring this thread back to life. I was just searching around and posted on it, then noticed it was a couple months old.
