Evo/STi comparison not really performance

was curious on some issues with the STi and Evo...

-Does the STi have a similar type of maintenance the Evo requires? IE: differential oil changes, tranny, etc..

-Their warranty coverage

-Bridgestone tires VS the Advan A046s (performance)

-Cost of dealership tune up

Warranty is better and the maintenance is about the same. The OEM tires are sweet but they are no Advans. Just buy Advans for the STi and you have better handling than stock. Other than that, the car is about the same.

You sure about the tire? Those Bridgestone on the Sti are competition tires. Rated 60 tread wear, which is the downside of the tire. Those tires grip like no other.

Depending on how you drive your car. I haven't been to the dealer for warranty work yet. (knock on wood) But I have the 100,000 mile warranty so the Evo should be fine.
As of the tires both are high wear, sticky tires and goes away quickly. It's better to have 2 sets. One for everyday driving (Full Tread) and one for spirited drives. The Bridgestones and 046s are shorter on the treads so they wear faster.

Because my Bridgstones do not in any shape or form grip like the Advans. This is a proven fact. They are very good tire, but they are no Advan by any measure. The Advan does wear quicker, but it all depends on your driving style. My Bridgstones on my Sti in a year and a half have not hardly worn down with tons of fast hard driving. My Advans on my Evo wear a bit quicker, but I get so much better grip in a high speed turn.

Different driving styles causes different tire wears.

While the Advan on the Evo are rated 160 which is not great by any means

and the Bridgstones on the Sti are rated only 60!!!! which suggest to me that

it is using a softer compound for better grip. I would like to know where you obtain

the fact that the Advans proves better grip then the Bridgestones? I'm curious.

Mabye ur high speed grip is due to the Evo's ability to grab the turn.

Coverage wise, the Subie warranty is by far the better between the two. As every real Evo driver knows, Mitsu doesn't want to cover jack on the car if they can get away with it. What use is a warranty that doesn't want cover anything and illegally void warranties for any parts on the vehicle that did not come from Mitsu.
My Mitsu warranty is a joke and an industry joke at that.

Without a DCCD in the regular Evo, the Evo does not and cannot attribute better grip to the drivetrain just the better tires help grip better with faster and more precise turn in. While on the other hand, the Sti can with a tire with less grip because the DCCD is working hard to keep grip on these tires. Believe me I know because I own both cars and have tested them exclusivly in all aspects of grip and handling. My Bridgstones have by far out lasted my Advans. Do a search of the forums or internet and you will see the Advan is by far the best non- R compound tire you can buy without stepping up to an R compound. This comparison on tires has been discussed to death on this forum for a very long time. Besides, the RE070 Bridgestone tire has a 140 tread wear rating not 60. Where did you get that bit of misinformation from? A 60 tread wear rating is on a straight R compound track tire, a soft compound track tire at that. Most R compound "medium to hard" have around 80 or 90 even 120 tread wear rating.
I love my Bridgestones even though they don't grip as well as the Advans and by no means are they a crappy tire. Put Advans on an 05 Sti with the DCCD and watch that bad boy take corners like nothing you've seen. That's why I wish our Evo's were not watered down and still had the Super AYC and other components that come on JDM spec Evo's.

The Bridgestone are not that bad according to a friend who bought the STi stockers from his brother. He took it to track and it performed well, but like everyone has said, the Advans have a better edge to them.

Warranty should be about the same, and when I had my Subaru, I never had any problems going to the dealer with ALL my mods. But I don't feel the same about going to the Mitsu dealer at all.

As far as dealership goes, you should learn to do most of your maintenance yourself, or find a really good dealer to take your car in. At least you know what you are putting in your car. Case in point... my friend took his 05 STi for his first free oil change and he told me the subaur dealer put in regular dino oil and they told him, it was fine.

Now, I'm sure it's fine, but I told him we get Mobil 1 for our cars, free maintenance or not, so why would you want them to put in dino oil? Both cars are pretty much the same, awd, turbo'd, etc. but you let them put in regular oil? I was kinda shocked. I told him that's probably why the Evo's are a bit faster than the STi's.

What warranty??

Also anyone planning to not mod the car up to 10/100 . Stock EVOs are no fun once you hop in a modified one

The Mitsu warranty is a joke, if anyone thinks they are going to cover anything for 10/100, I think you're just fooling yourself. There are too many stories on this forum, and my personal experience, that suggests that the warranty is completely useless wnad my car is completely stock. I'm glad that my warranty just expired now I don't even worry about it.
