I'm not sure you can tell much more from the VIN# than Make, Model, Trim level, year, build location, plus the build sequence, usually its the cumulative total for the entire production run, not specific cars or years, I think some vin#'s also say whether the car is domestic or foreign built.. It is possible that there are different trim levels recognized for the Lancer over and above the basic low, middle, high (or however they classify it)
This goes back to my vin decoding days when I worked with muscle cars, so more info could be in there now.
Of course, the VIN# Could be completely different for the EVO compared to the Lancer and have its own unique model identification and trim codes.. In that case its possible.

It's not a Serial number... its a VIN number (Vehicle ID Number). And I dont think there is a way to find out if ur car has a sunroof or not just from the numbers, the dealer would have to tell u that. Sorry

All you can really tell is what kind of car it is, and basic elements.. not its specific options.. I guess I was pretty close, I did leave out the engine code.. Forgot that, I used to be able to look at almost any Mopar VIN# and tell model what it was, and what engine it had, where it was built, and what trim level, year.. etc.. Until the VIN# sequences standardized in the 80's.. At least when it was decoded.. It was a EVO, and not just a lancer..

Carfax usually is only useful after the car has been registered.. A new car has a certificate of origin (sort of like a title), and no title until it has been registered in a state, there are exceptions of course, but Carfax is a tool to trace a car's history.. Since it has no history, it probably has no record.. And the VIN# is legit, Except for the sequence number (which is 200 or so lower than mine) is identical in the first portion.. Which means you've got yourself an EVO!! Now the sequence # could be bogus, but the number has several sequence elements the same, and only a value of 200 or so difference, I think that would make it close enough to be a real number... If he wrote it on your Deposit invoice, then that is the car they have to give you. If he didn't write it on your invoice, but just told it to you.. Then you could get the switcheroo or bumped when their delivered.

Thanks,
Mike
