undertray fastener help

Never again do I want to deal with these fine examples of engineering. After lots of searching here, I found a post from robi with the following recommendation:

"1/4 x 20 "long" spring clips with truss head screws and 1.75 od fender washers"

I fear if I bring this parts list in to Lowes or Home Depot I'll get the usual blank stare from the guy who is now wishing he hid in the lawn/garden department instead of hardware.

Can anyone help with a picture or description of what that is? I'd like to try something that'll work better before spending $2 per on that OEM **** only to run into the same headache next time.

Thanks!

Kinda OT, but FWIW, you can get OEM craptastic replacements for cheap at the dealer.

(I like them cause they are easy to rip out and replace with a new one

Which dealer is this? Most dealers I've been to charge like $2 for a pair of them.

MachV sells a 10-pack here: http://www.machevo.com/oempufa.html for $19.00... But to spend 20+ dollars every other time these disposable fasteners are removed is frustrating. Currently my undertray is hanging by 5 or 6 of these things that are just spinning when I try to unscrew them.

Again, can anyone help with pics or a description of the hardware list in the first post?

That's still $1 each, which is ridiculous for flimsy plastic screws.

Most auto parts stores carry the plastic rivets for the undertray. I bought some at NAPA part number 6651387. They came in a bag of 4. They are about 40 - 50 cents each. Description is push-type rivets. Also says Balkamp on the bag.

Oh yeah... when I went to the oil change place to put my undertray back on after IC pipe install, the guy there had a whole jar full of the fasteners that had come off people's cars... Probably your local Jiffy Lube would have a collection...

Well it does work to direct cool air to your brakes as well as keeping the front end down at high speeds due to it creating a low pressure zone.

The way I deal with these troublesome fastners is to use a flat head screw driver as a pry bar when unscrewing them seems to work good for me. The best thing about the undertray is how easy it goes back on. Thats the only easy thing about it.
