dealership experience today

Ok, today i went to Gillman to get a trade in quote on my 02 celica and look for an evo. When i talked to the salesman he said they only had one in stock. We went to look at it and it had the ssl package. I said i didnt want the one with leather package. He said "i think they all come with leather seats" I was like ok

Next, after about 45 min and a new salesman, they give me a trade in value of 7500 for my celica and say i need 5000 down and i would get payments of 715 a month for 6 years. I almost died laughing and got up to leave. I told them i had already got one quoted for 28000 out the door, he said hold on let me talk to my manager.

He finally came back and said if i left my sparco seats, rims, and exhaust on my car that they would give me 11500, what i owe, and lower my payments to 500 with 1500 down some 500 extra bonus for being a graduate from college. I told they i needed to think about it and would get back to them in a few days.

This was the weirdest experience i have ever had with a dealership!! O well what do yall think?

Dealerships really are just a horrible experience all around. I do not get how they can be so bad.

The funniest part is that i have never been to a dealership and talked to a salesman who actually knew something about the car he was selling. it is so funny!! selling cars is your job. its all you do. the least you could do is actually spend the time to DO SOME FRIGGING RESEARCH on the stuff you're selling. jeez.

is the kbb value on your celica really 11,500 or 7500? the reason why is that based on their records, if they sell you the evo being 5k up-side-down it throws a flag that you won't pay the notes.. not saying that you won't pay it, but it looks bad on the dealer if they have to repo a car.. thats why you have to qualify for financing..

for my car i was negative and to get the good financing they just recorded that they were offering me what i owe on my car and just adjusted the price of the car the same amount. in some states this might hurt you on the taxes but here you only pay the tax on the difference so it came out the same.

500/month for 60 months sounds reasonable, but 715 for 72 months is ludicrous

ok, people say dont go by payments. If i owe 11,500 on my celica and the kbb value for my car is 10,500.

Would it be smart to negotiage 480 payments for 60 months with 1000 down.

The way i figure that is only paying about 29800 total. they will even give me the 11500 that i owe for the celica rather than the 10500 it is worth, and having to tack that on to the end of the evo price.

If i could get that deal would it be worth it??? BTW its at 0% interest.

my lot is selling the 05's for 27,9K here in El Paso and are pretty damn helpful. In fact a couple of the sales guys race with me on my team.

the more they give you for your trade in, the more the new car is gonna be.. thats how it works... and if you're belly up on the trade in, then it makes it that much harder to get a deal on the new car, because you don't have the bargaining power that you would have with a large down payment or an almost paid off car..

sounds fair to me, $29,800 OTD with you not being in the best position on your current car is pretty fair
