metal in oil pan?!?!

I just did an oil change on my 03 evo w/ about 45,000 miles on it. its been about 5,000 miles since the last change, but I went to pour the oil from the drain pan into bottles and found the bottom of the pan covered by shiny specks of metal. they are no larger than the tip of a pencil. some of the metal bits are copper colored and others are silver. what should i do? do i have a huge problem on my hands?....the car runs beautiful...i wouldve never thought there was a problem. no weird knock, weird noises or anything.

Thats pretty much normal. Try geting a magnetic drain plug to help collect all that metal dust.

I've never seen metal in my oil, and I do the same thing you do with filling the bottles back up with used oil.

You better get it checked out! My friends evo chewed up a crank bearing that looked like what your saying. I believe your crank bearings are made up of muliple layers of metal one being a copper colored metal.

most bearings are made of copper coated with..... zinc (?) i believe. if you're seeing copper in your oil, you're eating a bearing somewhere in your motor

before you dump the oil, mix up a sample of it and send it off to Blackstone labs. . .I'd recommend getting a Spectral analysis to see what the hell is floating on in there:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/standard_analysis.html

keep us updated. . .

PS, get your free oil analysis kit here:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free_test_kit.html

just request it, send it in there pack, and then post your results. . .maybe your internals are giving, but I'd think you'd here a knocking or something. . .I dunno. . .

I'm gonna agree with SIlver on this, I think your seeing the start of a bearing issue. Really keep an eye/ear on your car.
