Question where do i start?

hey guys, im new to the evo world. i was just gettin goin on my 2000 Ford Lighting, and still play with it from time to time. but between gas prices, the coming minnesota snow and a need for speed equal to, or better than the lightnings. i saw nothing better suited than the evo. right now its got 15,000 miles on it. im very rusty on the manuals, but the stock clutch feels good ( prolly wont in a couple weeks though ) i must say i cant imagine a car thats more fun to drive. i feel the need to giggle like a little school girl every time i shift above 4000 rpm. but i know soon i will want more fun. so what are the best mods to start off with?

go to a driving school, or an Auto-X. i know it's not the answer you'd like to hear, i know you're wanting parts, but trust me. knowing your car and how it will react is money very well spent.

then, i'd check into some parts. i'm positive a search will yield a myriad of info

Search for:

"first mods"
"best mods"
"mod help"

Or go to the vendor section and look at all of their staged upgrades. I can assure you this topic has been covered close to 1000 times, so there is much info to be found that will help you out...

Don't listen to him he gets his knowledge from advertisements. stick with proven results that don't come with drivability issues. TBE, MBC, FP, Boost gauge, Cams, and a Tune. that there will put you in the neighborhood of 330awhp (Dynojet)

short ram intake and TBE are good choices. A MBC would also be a good upgrade

An Intake would NOT be a good choice and this has been documented by many reputable tuners and owners of said intakes.

short ram intakes not only ingest hot engine bay air but suck in lots of it causing erratic readings by the MAF , so in short :

Hot air = bad

erratic MAF readings = bad.

MBC = good

can you give me a website where this is documented? I am not trying to be a A$$ I would just like to see documentation. I don't want to give other people bad advice so it you could show me a site that proved your point that would be great

its funny how you see most of the tuner cars running an aftermarket intake and not the stock airbox.

Actually I just searched myself. I found as you will when you search, is that an Intake causes (esp. HKS ) I would contact Dynoflash on the matter. He has dyno'd massive amounts of cars with and without Intakes. For the Most part Intakes arn't evil such as BOV's because they can be tuned but the tuning of an Intake is problematic because of the readings. Dynoflash has documented gains over 5whp-11whp depending on level of modification.

But this is based off of tuning. without tuning he would still be experiencing problems esp. with the Typhoon. Now Are Intakes really a great first mod? Prolly not. for the 220$ (Intake ) and 199$ (Tune) He would have already invested 420$ before putting anything else on the car. he would be better suited going a different begining route and add'ing an Intake before his scheduled tuning date. that way he's not pissing away tuning funds that would be better spend somewhere else.

But with any thing you read on the internet this is my opinion that I have gathered from my personal experiences as well as others. It doesn't make it right

also see most of the tuners cars running EMS maybe I should run out and buy one of those.because then I wouldn't have to deal with MAF like those said tuner cars running aftermarket intakes.

cat back + new plugs @ 30k + intake = satisfied for the moment.

I'll be at the free dyno day on Sat. at gruppe-s so we'll see how she does.

funny because he seems to think he's a "special" case. wonder why he said that? plus when he did the Intake he did a cat-back which any turbo charged vehicle owner will attest to is the best way to extract power.
