Toyota is coming back to the WRC!
Anyone heard rumors about the new all wheel drive Corolla
It was a nasty car back in the days..
It's suppose to come to the US i think.. 260-270 hp stock
Turbocharged.. maybe we'll have Evo - STI - Corolla shoot out now?
Edit* The Evo is still number one!

It is the Mazda speed 3 yeah it is supposed to be turbocharged.
The wife seriously digs the Mazda 3.
I saw a picture in one of the car mags somewhere of the Speed 3 spy shot.
and I believe Toyota is going to make a come back to WRC as the rules are changing for next season, saw a picture of the WRC 06 - 07 Toyota corolla, in the same car mag.
Mitsubishi is already talking of claiming back the championship for next season, their car is already set up for the changes which is part of the reason why they aren't very competitve this season, but next season they should have ironed out all the kinks, they are hoping to get Colin Mc Crae, and possibly Marcus Gronholm driving for them, if they do then they will definitely be putting up a fight.
By the way the Rally of Wales is this weekend. Where Nicky Grist (Commentator for Speed) is going to be co driving for Colin Mc Crae again, they are going to be driving for Skoda in a one off event to help develope the Skoda works car further.
Should be very interesting.
(Just for the record)
some of the stages in the Wales rally I have actually driven on, The Epynt stages are close to a town called Brecon where I used to live. it is part of the Military tank ranges, I have watched many rallies up there.
it is an awesome set of stages. great spectator points.

This is exciting. I also loved the old WRC Corolla. Hopefully it will be light like the old awd corollas. Cars seem like they keep getting heavier and heavier.
Toyota is also supposed to rerelease the Supra under the Lexus brand @ the same time as the Infiniti Skyline GT-R, in 06 as an 07
I have heard the mazda 3&6 will be turboed under the mazdaspeed nameplate. No performance #'s on the turbo 3 but its fwd. but the mazdaspeed 6 will make ~270 hp, weight 3400lbs, have a TMIC, but its not awd technically. 100% fwd until the ecu splits torque under high demand driving conditions. The split will be very front biased. Engineers love understeer because it is "safer" than oversteer
i have also read mazda is rereleasing the turbo RX-7 in 06 as an 07

I read it in Road & Track SPEED Jul/Aug 2005
Here's the article:
It's no secret that the new Corolla makes its debut next year, but we've heard reports of a high-performance, turbo-charged, all wheel drive version that could signal Toyota's return to WRC. This new hatchback derivative, called the 255L should be reminiscent of the Corolla 4WD turbo of yesteryear, a version of which competed in the WRC in 1997.
Sources indicate the car will come with a new 2.5 Liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine, 3AZ-GTE, based on the AZ 4 cylinder. Horsepower is expected to be in the Evo and STi range 270-300 bhp. The awd system will be adopted from the existing Japan-market Caldina and may include advanced systems such as Active Yaw Control (AYC). Scheduled to debut in August 2006, this new sporty 3 or 5 door would go head to head with the VW gold, Audi a3, BMW 1-series, STi, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Looks kinda ugly in my opinion.. should be a nice car to drive however.
I love Toyota before Mitsu brung the Evolution to the US.. things change.
