question bout oil change and oem oil temp sensor

For those who have the oem sports meter kit and change their own oil. Am I supposed to use the crush washer that came with my oil filter? The oil drain plug/sensor currently doesn't have that washer on it. Does it matter?
Also, oil got all over the drain plug/sensor when i unplugged it. Will the oil damage the sensor if it gets into that swiveling/rotating part of the drain plug? I'm asking cuz my first sensor stopped working and was replaced by the dealer. They didn't know what might have caused it to stop working.

if it currently does not have it and there are no leaks, you prob dont need to use the crush washer.

re: oil on the sensor, the best you can do now is just clean it off and watch the gauge and make sure it keeps working

I got the crush washers from my dealer... is it really required/beneficial to put it on? My IX MR did not come with any on there.

Replace that seal every time because over time the oil pan threads will distort from the extra tourque needed to seal.Aluminum oil pan would aggravate this issue. The seal is designed to crush once.Being an autotech for a long time I'm constantly dealing with drain plug related issues...Would a seal brake the bank?
