okay, took it to the dealer, figured out my car does have a cat, and i was way off. one of the injectors is faulty...so that's getting replaced, i also found out that my car has been in a minor front end collision...score! 
thankfully they're honoring the factory warrenty, so i'm less pissed. but they are also charging me $43 to replace some vacuum hoses that were loose. ahh!!! frickin used car hassles!
