i should hope the engine can take the same rpm and speed for a long period of time, that seems like it would be part of a basic realibility test during developement.. i had cruise in my last two cars i dont miss it at all. evo is a high performance car, no need. and by the way i drive 315 miles each way from philly to boston and have gone on trips from boston to southern tenesee without even thinking to use cruise control

to the original poster.. search.
there are aftermarket cruises that work pretty well, not oem, but pretty darn well. I have one of them, and it's a live saver if you drive your car somewhere (more than a few hrs) and expect to walk around when you get there. esp us tall people.

I've had cruise control in most of my cars, and honestly, I RARELY EVER use/used it. I tried it in the STi ONCE just to see if it worked.
It's funny, though, because I'd be pissed if I didn't have it. It's nice to have, "just in case."

I can't live without it... I have to go on 400mile trip between VA and OH quite often. I just set the cruise at about 10mph above the limit, turn on my Escort 8500 X50 just in case, and just forget about it until I get a strong signal on the detector

I dont think other turbo cars run about 18lbs of boost so you cant compare an Evo to other Turbos. Most people don't have any idea on how to take proper care of their turbo. Your supposed to let it heat up before jumping all over it and after long extended drives your supposed to leave the motor idleing for 5 mins to let it cool down gradually. I also have a modded F250 with a Turbo Diesel so as any trucker and they will let you know about turbo maintance.

Even the ecu (stock) won't let you jump on it early, til it's warm. (10 psi cutoff)
And about the time? i'm sure you know what a turbo timer is, and i'm sure you also know why diesels are let run most of the time. However, thats where the similaties change. The most commonly compared car to the evo, the sti. does it have cruise? yes sir.
The reason we don't have it, is because mitsu was cheap and didn't wanna make a whole new stalk just for the usa market, the main users of cruise. The lancer cruise is on the wheel, and obviously, the lancer wheel is different from the evo wheel.

cruise is a very useful tool. To the people that "drive their car hard", well, you must not be driving to a road course to do it on, because the last thing you want when you arrive for a hard track day, is a sore leg already.

I have cruise control on my Evo. It can be difficult to use at higher speeds. If you go up a hill, it will get into boost and it'll spend too much time searching for the right speed. Just too much power in the car. On flat areas of the country, it works very well. I took my car from Oklahoma to South Carolina with it. It's nice to let my leg rest. In the mountains, just forget about cruise... it keep a steady speed.
The one I use has a stalk on the steering wheel and no one can tell that it's aftermarket. It cost me $300 installed at a stereo shop in Lawton, OK.
If you want more info, I can post some pics and figure out what the brand was.

The EVO is the first car I've owned where you have to pay attention to keep your speeds DOWN, as opposed to keeping them up. My old Accord, you could hear the engine strain if your foot started dipping too much into the throttle while on the highway. The EVO? It just swings the speedo on up without much effort. I'd love to have CC on this car.
"I also have a modded F250 with a Turbo Diesel so as (sic) any trucker and they will let you know about turbo maintance (sic)." - The duty cycles are far different between those two types of turbos, and thus aren't a good comparison.
