I got a reply from Discovery channel. They said the show was out of production. I can only assume they mean the us version. Hopefully they will try to pickup the real version or bbc america will start showing it.

Probably needed to free up the time slot for expanded coverage of pro rodeo or poker!

I suspect BBC realises that it has a potentially hot property on their hands. The "introduction" of Top Gear in the US as seen on Discovery was pilot run for what will hopefully be a re-launch in a better time slot sometime in the future. At the bare minimum they should relegate it to a wee-hour time slot where it would flourish nicely as "Tivo-fodder". Surely such a placement would be better than re-running the documentary of the installation of a gas drilling platform in the North Sea for the 30th time...

Went to the website and recommended the show. I was able to watch the BBC while in Korea and watch Top Gear all the time. When I got back to the States I was excited to see that it was on the Discovery Channel. Now I'm equally upset that its not coming back next season.

Hey guys, I have an update. A good one.

I told my best friend about this and he immediately posted on his Mini forums (he drives a Mini Cooper S). Anyways, people on the boards there also sent comments.

As usual, most of us got the normal, automated e-mail back saying thanks for the comments and such. One of the persons on the Mini forums tho, got an e-mail back saying that the show will be coming back in December. I would quote it directly but I guess that's illegal...

Apparantly, there is a certain "pattern" that Discovery channel goes through. They used the word "revamped" followed by the phrase "for the US audience" ( ). I think the deal with Top Gear is that they have to reconstruct each show specifc for the U.S. audience. That takes more time than we think. My theory anyways, with the e-mail forwarded to me.

So good news people, now I just can't wait til Holiday Season Christmas this year will be even sweeter..

now if they were smart, they would archive season 1 to DVD and offer it as a boxed set for the holidays

While this is good news and I understand what you're saying with regards to "revamping" the show for US audiences, the effort they go through is really a waste of time. Especially when you consider how they butcher the shows continuity. Also, the pricing they usually quote is a straight GBP to USD conversion. It's pretty obvious that generally speaking, that method means squat when it comes to how comparable models are priced in the US. Just look at the price of the Evo, for example.

Anyway, as I said, this is good news. I'm glad they're planning on bringing the show back.

I dunno what most cars cost in the UK, but I do have a supplier over there, and one of their engineers was absolutely amazed when he saw me driving my EVO. He said they cost $50K+ over there (US dollars). So if the general vehicle prices also translate, maybe the cars there are just very, very expensive?

Everything is a bit more expensive over there. The real estate market , for example, would be comparable to the real estate market in California or Florida. A random house in Los Angeles would be 3-4 times the price of the same house in the Dallas area. The same goes for the UK.

Talking Update!!

Got this from DC in an email

"Thank you for contacting Discovery Channel. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns with us regarding “Top Gear.”
Your comments will be forwarded to our program management and executives and will be taken into consideration.

The "Top Gear" show was not "taken off the air" but rather ran its pattern.
It is being revamped for a U.S. audience and will return later this year.
Look for it in December."

Its not gone!!
