Angry Evo8 vs. Pot hole ???

So this is my first post and its a sad one. Iv had my evo for about six months now, greatest car for the money period. So I hit this pot hole (more like a crater) at about 40, tried to swerve around it but I just ended up hitting it head on. Pulled over for an inspection and sure enough the rim is bent and the air is hissing out at the bend. Pop the spare on and car seems to be driving fine (as well as I would expect with a spare on the front left). Car isnt pulling or doing anything funny steering wise. It is making kind of a whiny gear box type noise that it didnt do before as I slow down. So I have 2 questions for you guys, 1. if I bent my control arm is this the sound it would make or is this just the car being funny about a spare tire? and 2. has this ever happened to anybody and if so have you had any luck persuing local/county government for compensation because the road just broke your car?! Thanks for your input people, sorry my first thread is long and boring.

Wow, I feel bad about your situation, I scan the roads like radar looking for potholes/bumps. I hit one with my civic a while ago and I thought I was going to get stuck! As for the noise..I wouldnt have the slightest clue..but I think you couldnt get any compensation from the town/government for hitting the pothole(crater)..either way..best of luck to you

The city isnt going to pay for crap.. If you have good comprehensive insurance it may be covered, but usually they say if you "collide" with something you will not be covered under comprehensive I think a pothole is more like a comprehensive claim so plead your case as best you can. If you have State Farm and a cool agent you can most likely have them cover it. As for the noise... take it to the dealer and dont even tell them what happend... say the noise just started n thats it. Good Luck

Immediately take good pictures, get estimate on repairs, get ahold of accountable government body - city, county, state ... give it a shot!

Good luck!

I think your right, I talked to a friend of mine that does service writing for a bodyshop and he says people come in all the time with road damage and just have to bend over and take it, either out of pocket or insurance. It really sucks, you would think that since your tax dollars are helping to pay for road maintenance that they should be liable for something like this. I also ride sportbikes and I know of someone who lost a lung after an accident with a pot hole. Oh well. Im not as concearned about who will pay as much as what could be wrong. as long as my poor baby gets back to normal

That whiny "gearbox" sound is your donut/spare...it always makes that noise...happens to me all the time..well..for everytime i got a flat....dont worry its normal...once you put your stock tire back on...you wont hear it again. IT sounds like youre driving over concrete paved roadways with small cutout lines in the concrete that are like 1 inch apart. The faster you go, the louder the whine. I dont know why the donut makes that noise...but eh..thats just the way it is.

You can tell the city about that and fight but you should have taken pictures when it happened. I know alot of us don't carry a camara all the time but they are suppose to pay for damage since we pay them taxes. Find out and give it a shot, you ain't nothing to loose

Id say the noise is from the donut, but wont hurt to have it looked at in case it is something else that you could be making worse by continuing to drive on it....as far as compensation from the city....not likely to happen, but it never hurts to try.
