My Evo Update... (vids too)

Well, up to 890 miles now... havin a ton a fun! It's still living up to my dreams as being one of the most fun cars to drive, and more often than not, faster than anything I pass. I've met a lot of people already who have stopped me to ask me about my car.

Things I've learned so far:
1) It is faster than an S2000, even a not so stock S2000. (don't ask questions...hehe)
2) It's faster from a 40 roll on in 3rd gear than most cars are from a 40 roll in 2nd.
3) Turbo is fully spooled and rare'in to @ about 3200-3500rpm.
4) Seems faster with 1/2 throttle than WOT.
5) VERY controllable in a 4 wheel slide. (Again, don't ask. )
6) You get a LOT of attention by passing motorists when they realize what that is next to them.
7) You can take a turn at about double the rated speed. (If it says turn ahead at 25mph, feel free to do 50. )
8) There is a rattle like people have been saying in my front right passenger compartment, right infront of the passenger airbag. No idea, but it HARDLY is even noticeable.
9) The ride is not harsh at all if you've driven a sportscar.
10) You CAN go on long rides with the car. It's easy to maintain your speed and the comfort level is great on the freeway.
11) Snow and Yokohama A046 tires don't mix. You can get going just fine, you just can't stop.
12) You can never wash your car too many times. (I'm averaging 1.15 times a day now)
13) 93 Octane gas is much better than 92 octane gas. God help people in CA who only have 91 octane.
14) On my 4th tank of gas, I averaged 22mpg on 93 octane gas, with a lot of hard driving in there. Lot of nice driving too.
15) My brakes have squeaked, once. That is all.
16) Gotta love carbon fiber.
17) I have movies... (Yes, they're in Quicktime. No, I can't convert them. Download quicktime you lazy freak) Yes, I know the quality sucks, but you try drivin an Evo and filming your tach.
Acceleration using about 1/2-3/4 throttle. I think I stopped at 60ish.
http://www.the-shadows.net/evo8/mine/movie1.mov
40 roll in 3rd. About 1/2 throttle.

40 roll in 3rd. About 3/4 throttle.

18) There'll be more comments as I think of more. Read this for now.

Overall, it still is a great car and I have 0 buyer's remorse. Evo rocks!

Thanks for the update Fireball! How's it ride over the rough road? Living in Michigan the roads can get very ugly with potholes. Also, how are you washing your Evo? Hand? Machine?
How do the seats feel for extended periods? Do they feel too tight on the kidneys? Whats the rear view like with the wing back there?

Thanks!

I'm not Fireball but i live in Michigan.

I wash by hand. If must use soap use a clean mit. Clean. No rocks. Other than that i just power wash most off with water and shamie to dry.

Seats are comfortable. Not tight but able to hold you because they are deep. Wing is thin. Not a problem.

If roads are all bad it will throw you off your seats. But hey then again it's a super sports car. And i'm not joking when i say super! You'll know what i mean when you take the wheel.

The ride over rough roads isn't really that bad, but it's not something you want to take a 50 mile trip on.

I'm hand washing it. I pull it back into the detail bay we have at work and wash it with warm water. When I'm not at work, I use a touchless wash, using the Laser 4000 system. (Scrub A Dub)

The seats feel very comfortable. If I didn't know better, I'd think that I mold into them more the longer I sit in them.

The wing is a blessing and a curse at times. It blocks out all those annoying headlights in your rear view mirror, but can abstruct your view as well. Simply moving up and down a little moves you around the wing so you can see.

Fireball, watch out for touchless wash. I've heard some use recycled filtered water and if there is some sand it'll scratch you carr worst than a soft cloth wash.

Then again i remmeber owning a silver car. No scratches

Ha ha, I do the same thing with the wing! Duck and block stupid cars with lights pointed up.

Since you guys have some miles on your car I was wondering if you've noticed the harshness of the breaks on your cars? When I'm at low speeds I can feel a faint grating at my feet not to mention the "hhhrrrrrrruuuuummmmm" noise. When I brake it feels harsher than anything else I've driven. I'm wondering if it's normal or if maybe my calipers need adjustment.

The brake noises and feel are normal.. They are higher heat resisting brake pads so they will make noise and and you'll feel that grinding feeling..

Also, if you feel grating there may be some crap on the brake pads, which usually takes one hard braking to get off. (although that may not be advised with such new pads... not sure how long you're supposed to go easy on those off hand)

Yea, that's just the nature of those brakes. even mentions this in any of the videos/literature.
