This is a very interesting thread, because it perfectly spells out why v8 drivers simply can't believe how fast our cars are. They think "little car, little engine, there's NO WAY it can be as fast as my 5.7 liter car!?!?!?"
Not only is it "stable", but if cared for will last as long if not longer than most bigger engines. It's just about making power a different way.

americans are all about making power the cheapest way. it's easier and cheaper to increase power by increasing displacement rather than designing a more efficient engine and using new technolgy like DOHC or variable valve lift timing. that's why americans still use push rod engine, because they are cheap to produce.

and don't forget the European ford YB engine used on Ford Sierra and Escort Cosworths...
these cars are the ancestors of Evos and Imprezas...
There are examples of more than 600ps/liter in race car trim and 400ps/liter in street trim...
what about a 2 liter YB engine with a HKS T51R SPL turbo, motec management and 830@wheels@34psi...

that cosworth motor would only last 12 hours before it would self destruct. This was in a special where they ranked the top 5 rally cars of all time. I dont remember what channel it was on but i think it was the science channel. i remember cosworth 5, audi 4, evo 3, subaru 2, and lancia was number 1.

and i m talking 18-19 years back. Now there are plenty of cossies which use newer technology/methods to produce mega power safely... i think there are classics...
