Test Drive of Evo 9 MR
I made an appointment to test drive the 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution 9 MR tomorrow. I have only driven a 2003 evo (just this past September and didn't like it much) where the power felt really slow. Is there anything I should know? I currently drive a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, my brother drives a 1992 3000GT VR4 and my father drives a 1991 3000GT VR4. What should I expect in terms of handling, power response, and braking? Is it similar to the cars I mentioned?
Anyway, hope to have some fun in the evo 9 MR.

The 9 feels a bit stonger up-top. But if you didn't like the 03' then you wont like the '06, not that big of a difference.

Handling should feel much better than the cars you mentioned. Which dealer did you schedule an appointment with?

I just bought a black 05' and almost backed out of the deal due to some cosmetic issues. While argueing I drove a 06' and even though I wanted it to feel different it didn't. So, I kept thinking 05' with 1K worth of cosmetic bullcrap for 24K with 10K on the clock or a 06' for 30.7K....even though I like the seats, dash, and rims better in the 6' I couldn't justify the extra 6K in price..
The car handles awesome and brakes awesome as well. My wife just drove it and I kept having to tell her to slow down. She said "It just makes you want to go fast and go around turns fast" She loves the steering if this continues it will be the first sports car I have owned that she really likes.

The 2003 is a lot different in handling. The 2006 Evo IX has the ACD and the front limited slip. A lot less understeer. The Evo IX is more refined. Bu tif your expecting a major difference between the two, theres not much. The only way to really justify the difference, you'll need to drive both back to back.

there's a lot more little things that add up (interior seat fabric design is the first thing on my mind)...
and a couple things that bugged me (no red sticker on door lock(when unlocked), no HIDs, no vanaty mirror light, no fog lights! ugh) but the overall ix package was good. I didnt get a MR because tehy wanted nearly 39k OTD for it
I'd rather get a 6spd g35 coupe.

First of all, the GSX is not even a close comparison with the EVO or the 3000GT VR4 on power nor handling and braking.
You said that the EVO 8 did not felt fast?, I must say is the way you perceive things, the 03 Evo 8 is in fact a bit faster than your father and you brother's VR4's stock.
As far is the handling, I think the EVO8 and the 3000VR4 are very close, I in fact would say the 3000VR4 has a small advantage.
The VR4 is a very wide car, very low, it has widers tires(245/17) and it has electronicly adjustable suspension wich makes it handle very well.
Back to the original subject, the EVO 9 MR simply sweeps away ALL of the cars mentioned above.
The stock EVO9 MR out brakes, out handles, out accelerates the VR4's...
As far is the motor response, the GSX tiny t-25 turbo spools superfast but dies at 10psi, you can efficiently obtain 14psi out of it with a MBC and better intercooler pipes but that is about it.
The VR4'S comes with also tiny turbos td04 9b. The response is great but again , they vanish very soon. The MR with the 6 speed and Mivec spools very well and boost above 20PSI and remember, the MR turbo is absolutely gigantic in CFM flow compare to the VR4'S turbos, perhaps it flows nearly twice the volume and twice the PSI..
That was my sincere opinion

and 03 evo should handle better than any of those cars u mentioned stock for stock, now jumping on up to the evo9 you are looking at 15hp more an acd and a new head with variable valve timing that virtually illiminates turbo lag .the compressor side of the turbo is also bigger.
that should justify your price jump.
that should justify your price jump.
