I see what you are getting at. However, you'd never be able to convince anyone who drives any of those other cars to even consider your point.

MKIV guys think they are (their car's are) better then everybody's.
The 300ZXTT has, I think, has a few more racing accolades in Japan that the Supra does not have.

But as far as aftermarket is concerned, I totally understand what you are getting at.

In response to your topic I must say that the stock 300ZX and the Stock Supra TT were toe to toe when they first came out. When they tested the TT Supra in Europe they got a 0-62mph in 6.2sec and they kept saying the car was very heavy.

As far is aftermarket upgrades, the Supra responds very well to the upgrades, kind of like the Evo.

Unfortunately the 300ZX does not have a competitive aftermarket part business, they are extremely expensive and not that impressive at all.

On the other hand the STI aftermarket world is all over the place, just like the Evo.

My last statement goes for the Supra fans. I never considered the Supra a exceptional car. Poeple talks about 1000RWP and all that, yes the Supras can make that much power but a Evo is a 1/3 of the displacement and still as fast.

Some guys running 6 and 7 sec sec 1/4 mile 177mph witha 4g63 engine.

Now switch role around, a Supra running a 2.0 litres and a Evo running 3.0 litres motor, now what? Supra is Ok, but nothing special.

True, our engine is well proven.

Great response. I'd have to agree.

It would seem that given the long history the evo's block has had with successful tuning, the evo platform is the easier route for build ups. There are scoobies out there with well over 500 to the wheels, but they're not as common as evos. Evos also seem to do well not only in 1/4 mile times, but time attacks as well.

The STi is a great car but its ECU prevents any significant power gains over stock. The ECU does not respond well to mods and was designed like this on purpose. The ECU must be modified/replaced for even an aftermarket performance intake to not throw a CEL.

The Evo on the other hand can be sparsely modified and yield significant gains.

Their potential is similar but it is going to cost a person more to modify an STi vs an Evo to get similar performance.

I agree with what you said and want you guys to know that I am by no means bashing the STi's out there. I am merely stating an observation that I have had. I was very curious to see in an open dialog type converstation to see what you guys would think about my thoughts.

Please keep the opinions coming!

I think the US only motor in the sti is a big reason the aftermarket support is not as strong. It also seems the supra takes on the mods much like the evo. I like your thought process on the comparison.

I agree with 50% of your post. The STi is a good AWD turbo vehicle, but the aftermarket really isn't all that impressive for the STi as of yet. EJ25 parts are hard to come by, and when you do, they're expensive; very expensive. Figure that the motor is only 3 years old, so we'll have to see what happens. Keep in mind that we're the only country to get the 2.5L, so it's no surprise that the aftermarket hasn't blown up. Overseas, the aftermarket for the 2.0L is HUGE.

The ECU in the Subarus is fine. It's more of an inconvenience than a problem. I don't know who told you that an ECU needs to be replaced when you do an aftermarket intake, but that person/source is sorely mistaken.

Subaru's ECUs are set up to work on stock vehicles, and they do a fine job at doing so. They're just programmed a little bit differently than some of the other manufacturers' ECUs, and their method makes things a little bit tougher.

Who told you the motor in the STi was weak? There are STis out there making over 450 whp on stock internals in the 2.5L when tuned correctly. The 2.0L overseas is capable of handling more (thanks to their forged internals).

I'm a EVO fan....I just bought a 05' on saturday past, but Supras are much more reliable at the track when your running big numbers in the hp dept. WOTM for instance made over 20 passes in the low 9's@155-160mph with NO BREAKAGE AT ALL. He is just one example and it shows the benefit of RWD in a drag format.

Even the best AMS, TT, Pruven, Al have gone through halfshafts, diffs, all have built trans now, so to run a AWD drivetrain and even be halfway reliable is big money...vs the many many stock 6sp, diff, shafts etc that many supras run.

Shep trans with front diff 3K+
Driveshop axles 1K+
Exedy clutch 2K+

and AMS is still breaking these axles and they are the toughest ones made. I love AWD, but having 6K+ in your driveline and knowing that any launch could break a part is frustrating. Almost like the rotorheads that swear you can make 500rwhp reliable on a 13b....it's being done and even much more than 500rwhp, but on any run that sucker could pop....it's frustrating.

Lastly, and my book is finished, I'm a 4g63 freak, but in the end a 3.0 will put down 50% more power. There are no magic 2.0 or magic 3.0 it's all physics and money. They have 1000hp 2.0's, 1500hp 3.0's, 2000hp 4.6 stangs it's all relative to your pocket book.

EVO's rule though.
