I remember reading that carbon fiber doors will save about 100lbs but they are also very expensive.

lose the passenger seat and get a lightweight replacement for the driver seat, get a smaller battery to replace the heavy stocker, lightweight rims, lose the wing i dunno those are a few things.

if your building a RACE CAR why not go all out then and remove the AC etc and what not I dont understand..

Thats my problem I want a racecar but I also want my street car and cant afford two Evos so I am trying to do the best I can. I already have a smaller battery, my wiring I need for street driving. Does anyone have any real weights for this stuff... like for 2 grand worth of rims and saving 10lbs isnt a great $/lb.. I would rather start with something like seats, steering wheels, airbag type stuff.

I just dont know how to get the seat rails and everything to work for the seats, and have no idea on how to go about tossing the airbags and controls for them. Id bet the whole airbag system weighs 50lbs.

I have a SPAL Fan... I kinda need something to keep the car from overheating The SPAL seems much lighter than the stocker.

Remember, I do (Try to) drive this car everyday.

Lightweight and relocated battery, front and rear 5mph crash beams, CF driveshaft, and remove sound deadening material from under carpets in cockpit and trunk.

Those are just a few that I can come up with off hand.

scrap your hood hinges, hood stand, the lock assembly and cables, and use 4 hood pins. that'll save you 5-10 pounds.

Well getting rid of the bumper supports and spare tire crap is a gimme, you look like you are running out of options with out ripping more crap out or replacing parts.

"I am wondering if anyone took the time to actually weigh out alot of the components of the car."

That is what the post was more designed towards... and I have read plenty of weight savings the problem is most are either 'gimmes' like you said or are designed for a flat out race car. I have an RX7 that is designed as a pure race car and it is stripped, without heat, glass, some of the various metal bracketry, holes drilled through, etc...

I was looking for weights of various componants mainly and some more ideas of 'gimmes' as you say. Or maybe some info on where i could buy some lighter weight componants (Like the doors).
