Asked the Service Manager if...

there are any mods I can do that are okay, warranty-wise. The answer was: "No. None. Not even something like a turbo timer."

He then told me that whenever an Evo comes in for warranty work a special rep is dispatched to examine the car for mods. If any are found the claim is immediately denied.

Guess I'm putting my Vishnu plans on hold...

haha, man that sucks bro. When I bought my car I asked the local mitsu dealer the same question and he said "anything without touching the internals you are good"...

I guess some places are good and some are really, really bad...

you can always just go with a flash for now, even stock cars can utilize a flash. It is supposed to be undetectable to the service guys as well...unless they have figured out how to recently

cat-back exhaust should be fine. Imagine if you're stock exhuast rusted out or something. They can't void you're warranty just because you replaced it with one that wasn't OEM, like one from your local muffler shop. Same thing with the air filter, Oil filter, brake pads and on and on...

That is BS. There is no such thing as a special rep. The service manager would have to have a reason to call his rep and narc you off. A smart service manager would tell you up fron that IF the mod caused the failure it is NOT warranty BEFORE starting to work on the car. Think about the math. One "special rep" dispatched to x amount of dealers on a daily basis. The service manager DOES NOT void the warranty. The district rep would have to know about about the mod causing the failure and then proceed from there. The service manager that you talked to is full of crap. That guy obviously has waaaayyy too much time on his hands and a very active imagination.

I call BS as well. Mitsu knows the law when it comes to mods. They just try to screw us around. Grow a pair and stand up for yourself.

Yes, they can void your warranty! Just because there is a law that protects you in certain situations does not mean they have to obey it. I know my service manager personally and they have and can void you warranty if they feel like it. You would have to take them to court and prove that the mod did not effect the part you want under warranty. Not to many people would be willing to go that route. The best thing to do is find a dealer that is cool with your mods. The district rep will say that any mods are going to void your warranty and he or she will void your warranty if your car has modifications. I had a lot of problems with my EVO. That's why I found it in my best intrest to become good friends with the service manager and the shop foreman. Sorry for the bad news, but that is what I have learned over the past few years. Good luck.

Bingo! That is just some dumb*ss displaying his ignorance. Go to a different dealership I almost gaurantee you will get a different answer. My dealership is on a don't ask don't tell policy. If I don't tell them something I've done could be a problem, they don't ask. It works out great.

What that rep told you may or may not be true. However if it's an official policy of theirs, it's 100% illegal. Know your rights. All of this restricted warranty stuff existed long before the Evo or even the first Mitsubishis came to the USDM. Guys like us in the 60's and 70's were dealing with the same BS after they upgraded the carb on their Mustang or put a better flowing exhaust on their Chevelle. Save this link. It's a long read but it could potentially save you thousands of dollars in the future...

This is going to vary with everyone based on personal experience.

I will always take my car to Al, from Dynoflash and reccomend him to anyone that asks my opinion. I have had nothing but top notch customer service from him and the tune was incredible..
