I'd say oil pressure, fuel pressure, boost, air/fuel ratio. Thats what I am using right now.

I'm gonna go with:

Boost - Fairly necessary. alerts you of boost leaks, spikes, etc.

AFR (a good wideband one) - necessary for any kind of tuning, or if you are going to mod at all. lets you know if your mods are making the car run too lean or too rich.

EGT - Necessary if doing any tuning, and car is used for any real performance stuff. It is hard to find a DSM without an EGT, but it seems like not too many evo guys use them. I dont have one installed yet, but its next on my list after the above, and will be installed soon. I think its highly recommended for road racing. if your egt starts getting super hot, bad things will happen.

Oil Temp - Helps to watch temps, especially for road racing. lets me know how long to let the car cool for, etc.

Oil Pressure - can save you an engine if you get a leak or lose the oil pump. you have to be on top of this one though, i think you need to catch it the second your pressure drops.

what you need to monitor everything in your car is the zeitronix which covers the egt afr and map boost. in addition to that you only need water temp and oil pressure. water temp is faster than oil temp... oil temps is nice to know when to turn off your car and stuff. oil pressure is more critical. it's nice to have a boost gauges with alarm too. the zeitronix doesn't alarm you.

werd, anymore is a waste of money. EGT for me is a tossup. It's necessary if you're doing anti-lag stuff or running high boost, but I don't see it necessary on a stock turbo setup. I'm sure Mitsu designed it to handle the heat. Just turbo time it after a hard run. But honestly, i'd know when my oil pump failed, or fuel pressure drops.

I have a egt, afr, oil temp, oil pressure, coolant temp, boost, volt(safety for fuel pump).

EMS came out with a nice Serial Guage that links up to the ems and will show you anything the ems monitors. You can link a few together and monitor the ones you want or have the guages cycle through different ones. Very nice if I may say so.

Question is too vague. It really depends on what you want to do with the car and if you're going to be tuning it yourself, etc. I realize the fact that you're asking what gauges you need rules out tuning it yourself, but I planned on "learning" with this car, so maybe you are too.

I would say that all you really need for the average user is a boost gauge, if you're going to tune it yourself it would be a great benefit to have EGT, Boost, Wideband AFR, and a logger that can log knock voltage, timing, etc.

agreed... anything more is just showing off! no need for egt since your a/f should tell you anythign a egt would and at a much quicker rate.
