unofficial recall on 03-04 evos?

My dad works with a guy who has an evo and so does his son. He told my dad there's an "unofficial" recall on 03-04's because of a problem with the syncromesh? He told my dad he had it taken care of at a local dealership, and they didn't give him any hassle even tho his car and his son's are both modded.

question is: anyone else heard of this unofficial recall and/or taken your car in? I haven't gotten a letter in the mail about anything, which is obviously why its being called unofficial....

MMNA has not issued a recall for this. A recall is ONLY for a safety item. A TSB maybe, but not a recall.

Right, there is a TSB. My dealer denied that the was one until I told them I had a copy of it, then they agreed to do it. Although, after they were done they did say that if the District Rep would have seen my exhaust, he wouldnt have done it.

Nice. Will they replace this part even if you don't have a 5th gear grind??

With my 30,000 mile service coming up, maybe I'll have them do it then

I believe so; I don't think there is one for 05s, but I could be wrong.

They should be able to pull it up in the system. Take the TSB# with you just in case, so they can search by the actual number if necessary. I had the windshield rattle TSB done, and it was simple. I went in...mentioned the windshield rattle TSB (I didn't know the number), they looked it up (probably by VIN), and then did it with no questions asked.
