i know chicago isn't that strict but running catless can have a severe punishment... chicago don't have smog testing on the spot do they?

I have a catless evo without a tune. (Ralliart Japan ECU, however, but not catless specific). No cons so far, but the power increase is very noticable.

Seem to remember that a few years back, Kawasaki or some other motorbike manufacturer got away without a cat by actually drawing in fresh air into the exhaust pipe to mix with the exhaust gas. Will that work with current laws?

please do the environment a favor and just get a HFC and keep the test pipe for track day. 10 hp is not that noticeable on the street and you can always make up that 10 hp with some other mods.

Bikes don't have cats. Not at the moment anyway, I'm sure that its comming.

Here we go, got this from specs of a Kawasaki bike...

Lightweight Exhaust System

- Light exhaust system contributes to engine performance
- Stainless muffler housing improves catalyzer performance and reduces emissions

KLEEN™ (Kawasaki Low Exhaust Emission) System

- Helps keep exhaust emissions environmentally friendly
- KCA (Kawasaki Clean Air) system routes fresh air to the exhaust ports for reduced exhaust emissions

You learn something new everyday.

I think though that it is not a requirement as of yet, if you read on the link that you posted it says that "In select markets, an additional honeycomb catalyzer system reduces emissions" anyway, I know that my 01 cbr929 has none.

I remember reading something about when it was going to be required but I thought it was not until 2008 or something.....ah hell who cares.

Thanks for the info

edit: FWIW bikes in Cali have had cats for some time now, and are rated at slightly lower hp. Magazines always test "49 state bikes" , it always California you cant even run a weedeater without a cat.

If i get pulled over, i shut the car off immediately, so the cop doesnt have a chance to smell it.

i live near chicago. my friend has been driving his rx7 without cat for years and you can hear his car from blocks away... he never got pulled over because of "driving catlessly"... just because of "loud exhaust"... maybe thats a greater concern...?
