mini battery and stereo system
I have an ams mini battery kit and am interested in doing a small stereo. (go ahead and start the flaming for adding weight to the car)
I am going to do a deck, amp, new front/rear speakers and a 10" sub in a small box. I would like to add a cap since I plan on using a ppi pro-mos425 amp and I know that it draws a fair amount of current.
anyone else have a cap or amp hooked up to a mini-battery with good luck?
I already know that the mini-batteries have no car-off run time and I am ok with that, I don't sit in a car with the engine off and listen to the stereo, just while I am commuting to work...
thanks

can push over 200wpc when ran down to a .5 ohm load. I am thinking 2ohms all the way around and should be good for around 75-100wpc. nothing too crazy. I would think that the minibattery should handle that. not adding all kinds of processors/tv screens and all the rest of the crap that you can add to car audio. just trying to get a decent sounding stereo for the drive to work and back. the factory stereo in the 03's is ****.....
don't think it could be any worse than the infinity setup. it must be running an outboard amp since it has a sub....
btw, got an extra one if you are lookin....
best amps on the market in my opinion...

I've been using the Odyssey mini battery and running the following constantly without ANY problems...
Pioneer DVD/CD/MP3 player with flip-up touch-screen
Pioneer 6.5's all around including tweeters
JL Amp powering a 10" JL W6 in a ported box
Greddy TurboTimer
Greddy Profec-B Electronic Boost Controller
Defi Gauges
Alarm with constant temp monitoring
No problems with starting or dimming lights even with the stereo cranked up.

Just a little info on batteries and stereo's. As soon as the car is running you no longer need to worry about battery size. The alt. supplies all the power when the car is running. The only time you ever start to use the reserve from the battery is when you pull more amperage than the alt. can supply. Caps are nice in the fact that they can supply the instant power when an amp needs it. They store tons of energy and discharge so fast. So as long as you never exceed the alt. amperage rating with everything on: lights, fan, stereo, etc. you will be ok. But like you said with the car off you would be in trouble fast with such a little battery.

yup. going with infinity kappa 6.5 separates for the front/rears, 1 infinity kappa perfect10sub and the ppi pro-mos amp. will make a good clean system for not a lotta $.
using an alpine 9851 deck. will add 1 farad cap as well.
going to run the fronts/rears off 2 channels of the amp, and using the other 2 for the dual voicecoils of the 10. should work out great and sound good.
thanks for the info on the minibattery. looks like I am good to go....

as long as you keep the total watts low, you will be ok. i had to add another battery in the trunk, but thats because im running a 200watt amp for mids and tweets and 1500watt amp for subs. the mini battery is very limited because it does not store alot of power, so it just depends on how much power you decide to run.
