While we're on topic about claimed factory horsepower ratings, did anyone catch the article one of the big car mags, not sure if it was MT or Automobile, but there are new guidelines for 2006 for claimed HP. Guess what?
Toyota's car's were overrated.
Acura's car's were overrated.
GM's cars were UNDERRATED of course!

you are supposed to break in the other way. rev like crazy for the first 20 miles. Then you take it easy till 1k. that first abuse will make the piston rings expand to the wall and seated perfectly tight. if you didn't do this, you missed your chance to seal it perfect. after 100 miles, rings will set in loose manner and they won't be any tighter.

You HAVE to go above 3500rpm and get into the boost so that the rings seal. If you didn't go over 3500rpm, then you never boosted. The Mitsu manual says not to go above 5000rpm, not 3500rpm.

Slightly off topic... has anyone put an Evo IX head on a flowbench and done an apples to apples comparison of the flow characteristics with the Evo 8 cylinder head? I suspect the head design and casting quality of the Evo IX head are provide for better flow.

My neighbors 06 evo put down 264 horsepower on the AMS dyno. After a TBE, KN filter and a half pound of extra boost it was around 290 horsepower. These cars are beasts!

I have no idea, and I don't know if it is public knowledge, but I know they responded to the questions by "raising" the published HP the next year even though power output wasn't changed.
P.S. Congrats to IX owners, very very impressive.
