the VIII's interioir is lame - my 7th gen Celica was much nicer and it ain't no luxury car either. The materials are cheap, the layout is segmented, and the I've got a bazillion squeeks and rattles already after only a year. Better does not have to mean heavier, look at an NSX or Supra - and that design is ancient.

The first I'd do to improve it, is custom mod the center console so it flows better from the "cubby hole" down into the shifter console. Then replace the surface material for something lighter *and* nicer - like the matte fake suede kind of plastic toyota's use, rather than the shiny "kitchen floor" style plastic vinyl floor look.

I never thought the interior of EVO was as bad as every other non evo owner hate about. Interior of the EVO fits the car perfectly fine.Nice and simple. The performance this car delivers for the price makes me fall in love with every aspects of the car.

if you're driving your EVO right, you won't have the time or effort to mess around with those ghey touch screens, navs, etc. . .

It's an all purpose built car, strictly for those that can take the kidney pounding suspension, neck snapping torque, and ear piercing turbo spool. . .if you want to soften it up a bit, make it a little more classy, get the SSL package like I did, all leather is plush. . .

While I used to be worried about this stuff, other than *visually* really look at your interior, I've been in G35's and they use hard plastic also, same for BMW's especially 3 series, STI's, Vettes etc.

ALL interiors IMO are close to the same, same plastics, same hard colors, same easily scratched surface. Now some are put together different or creak more than others, but realistically their not different except in the way they are designed. If thats what your talking about theres not much you can do, but if you dont like materials etc, IMO interiors on most cars up to ~40k are pretty much the same.

Some people think thats nuts, but really look at interiors and press on the door panel plastics, do it on a G35, 350, 3 series, STi, Civic etc and tell me their not all pretty hard plastics. Some give a tiny bit more etc but none are that "plush" as to make a difference IMO.

Civic interior is leagues better than the lancer, and that's really sad to mention.

To the threa starter, ... not much you can do. Just close your eyes and wish it's something else. Thou, ull have to open your eyes and than the headache and eye sore begins. New guages, navi and I.C.E help... but it's nothing dramatic. For just the driver it's ok, what bugs me is when other get in the car and start talking crap, so I just kick them out while driving... let them get a taste of cold pavement.

I will also admit that I first thought that the Evo interior was a bit too spartan for my taste, especially considering the cost of the car. However, I've come to believe that the Evo is more about function than about form. By the way, I chose the SSL simply because a $33K vehicle should have some aesthetic refinement. At this point, oddly enough, there seems to be a certain charm associated with the fact that it doesn't have cruise control, the seats squeak, the brakes moan, the drivetrain is noisy, etc. I've kinda fallen in love with all of the idiosyncrasies of the car. Besides, having a really pimped out interior straight from the factory would make it even more expensive. I've said it before - I can't imagine driving anything else. Period.
