broken valve cover...is it dangerous?

I was installing my ingall's stiffy damper tonight and noticed that my black plastic valve cover is cracked over one of the screws, like it was overtorqued. Oddly, no one has ever unscrewed it before. How bad is this? What causes this? Will this be covered under warranty?

black plastic valve cover?
The valve cover for evo is red and made out of aluminum. Are you talking about the black spark plug cover with mitsu logo? if it is the spark plug cover, it is okay but you should take that out and see if the red valve cover is cracked also.

that black plastic valve cover being cracked is no big deal. my only concern would be getting water to seep down into there and end up chillin with your spark plugs, then your going to be misfiring and crossfiring like a mother. i wouldn't worry about it tho.

My MR valve cover is made of a different metal other than aluminium, I think is called molebnium or something like that. It has the initials MB on it.

I don't trhink you broke the valve cover . I saw the other day one Evo getting a engine damper and it is installed where the cam cover goes. You probably are mistaking between the cam cover and the valve cover.l

It's Magnesium, it's not just the on the MR, and the Periodic Symbol is "Mg". It's a fairly rare metal with high strength to weight properties and the noteriety of burning furiously with enough heat.

Molybnium is a type of grease.

There is a drain for that area generally there for spilled oil to drain out but it works for water too.

Just to be clear.
It is a cam cover not a valve cover. That really is not the right terminology because it covers the cams not the valves. I hate when terms are improperly used, it only causes more confusion. And while I am on the subject it is a rocker cover on pushrod engines.

Don't get me started there are plenty of these, like alternators. (no such thing!)

Bringing this thread back to life, last night I was retorqing my cam gears, and when I was tightening it by hand one of the back bolts cracked the cover, it is a tiny tiny crack but still.

Where can I buy a new one?
