03 Evo VIII to Evo IX impressions.

03 Evo VIII to Evo IX impressions.
Good to be back guys. Had an 03 Evo VIII sold it for an 04 Chevy Crew Cab. Not a day went by that I didn't miss that car! I kept the Evo stock and had it for only 4k miles.
Long story short, I sold my truck and tried to buy an 05 Evo VIII several times ever since 0% was offered. Dick Hannah Mitsubishi in Vancouver, WA and and Premier Auto in Beaverton, OR played their games and lost a sale. Town and Country Mitsubishi in Gladstone, OR ended up selling me a GSR (w/ no sunroof) Evo IX for $31,083.
I read a lot of magazine reviews regarding the slight increase in power over previous models and wasn't expecting too much. As I waited patiently to exceed 600 miles during break in, reports were coming out about the underrated power.
Well, tonight we got on it and this thing hauls ***. I never have driven anything quicker than a stock Evo. Members have compared a stock Evo IX to a ~stage xx Evo VIII. Is this true? Is it my imagination or does the IX's exhaust note above 5,500 rpm sound different? To me, it sounds a whole lot less restricted than my '03 - it rips!. WOT in 1st gear from a rolling stop had all 4 wheels spinning! The damn car pulls all the way to redline. There was no point in exceeding 6,000 rpm in my '03.
BTW, I do prefer the "carbon fiber" look of the seats to the leather.
Any local members interested in my tires? I have 700 easy miles on them. What I would like is someone to meet me at a Tire Rack here and buy me a set of mounted M&S tires ($600). This is my wifes car and we would just be wasting the stock Yokohamas commuting.
You guys remember the thread about tightening all the hose clamps a couple of years ago? It turned into a great tip that so many benefited from (including myself). Has anyone tried this with recent Evos? Has the factory kept them tight since? I'll tighten them all up tomorrow and let everyone know my results. Here's the thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=74738
Thanks everyone!

Welcome back.
Can't help you on the tone of the exhaust though. I have never heard a 9 yet. Only my 8.
On the dyno, the 9's have been putting down some serious power. Do a quick search and you can see w/ a tune and an exhaust, the 9's have been getting close to 300 to the wheels.
Best of luck w/ your car!
