He did have the test pipe. Petey and I have been following each other's progress from the very beginning when we both got our MRs. He's always done very well with very little, but his 12.6-12.7 runs were with the flash and test pipe. The cat-back didn't add much, but he dyno'd what he dyno'd. I'm just wondering what he thinks when seeing Sergio's numbers on the same dyno not too long ago.

No I hear yah, especially since Sergio had cams. Those are great numbers for just a flash and test pipe.

Sergio dyno'd just about the same at PD (305whp/296wtq), but trapped 114.8 on 93oct. What do you think?

Warr, was Sergio running in the tower lane where the traps were 2 mph higher than normal?

He didn't run that day. His runs were done at Cecil, I believe.

I don't think my car is making as much power as his. I do not forsee 114mph trap speeds either. The difference must be in the corrections entered. Either way my car is running very strong and now breaks loose in 1st gear. I would say 110 traps seem to be more likely, and to tell you the truth I would be perfectly happy with that. I have read that a stock 05 dynos at 235 at this dyno but who knows. Can anyone distinguish the correction factors at the bottom? Either way I get to the track fairly often so corresponding 1/4 will be in order very shortly. Next on my list is a custom 02 eliminator downpipe.

So I take it you are happy wit your Dyno Flash tune ?

I really like the shape of the dyno sheet

Enjoy

Man, Petey has been rockin' out with that initial mail-in Flash for like a year. He went 12.8 on just the flash, then added a test pipe and went 12.6. I'd say both his and my mail-in Dynoflash got the job done.

Al,

It has been working very well for me. I'm glad you talked me into getting it last summer at e-town..The power curve is very good and looks like it would be a custom tune, very good job. I may want to step up to the 2 stage soon in order to run race gas if I do not go with the MAFTpro.

My MR was dynoed in 4th, since third is shorter than on the 5 speed.

actually 3rd is really close to the 5spd. 4th is totally different between the two so you using 4th on the dyno on your MR will show totally different numbers than 5spds.

06 gear ratios between 6spd and 5spd is even closer in 3rd:

2006 - Gear Ratios
EVO & EVO RS.................... EVO MR
1st: 2.785:1 .................... 1st: 2.909:1
2nd: 1.950:1 .................... 2nd: 1.944:1
3rd: 1.444:1 .................... 3rd: 1.434:1
4th: 1.096:1 .................... 4th: 1.100:1
5th: 0.761:1 .................... 5th: 0.868:1
Final drive: 4.529:1 ..........6th: 0.693:1 Final drive: 4.583:1

2004 gear ratios

EVO & EVO RS.................... EVO MR
1st: 2.982:1 .................... 1st: 2.909:1
2nd: 1.950:1 .................... 2nd: 1.944:1
3rd: 1.407:1 .................... 3rd: 1.434:1
4th: 1.031:1 .................... 4th: 1.100:1
5th: 0.720:1 .................... 5th: 0.868:1
Final drive: 4.529:1..........6th: 0.693:1 Final drive: 4.583:1

Yeah, I tried doing 4th on my MR, but it didn't work well at all. It was such a long pull that I was producing a lot of heat and erratic readings. I stuck with 3rd, since it's so much closer to 3rd on the 5spd. Incidentally, I saw around 10whp more (peak) each time in 3rd than in 4th, since I wasn't heatsoaking so badly.

Our recent dyno tuning session in Orlando two weeks back had the MR's tuning in 4th and GSR/RS in third. Switching to 4th on the 5-speed would have netted better results, especially in the torque department according to Jester Tuning. A stock MR (2005) made almost as much torque and about 12 less hp than me (also a 2005) which was shocking. But John explained it was due to the different gearing and my dyno reading would have been higher in 4th. Dunno...I know my RX7 always makes better numbers in 4th than third. I also get more samples when logging in 4th as well but IAT's do tend to go up higher and the pull is longer. She's topping out at 160mph in 4th!

Warr, you're able to log timing, knock, IAT's, etc...with your logger, correct? So in 4th there's no change in timing resulting in a power loss? It's all intake air temps?

I only logged timing, and it was indeed suffering at the top when things starting getting hot. My torque and mid-range were fine, but it was erratic at the top, and I was running less than 21psi on 93oct. It was also in the summer, so that didn't help. Not as hot as down in Orlando, but hot enough to keep numbers down. I didn't log IATs, but I assume they were much higher than normal during 4th gear pulls while stationary in a hot dyno bay.
