HUGE MR dealer mark up

So last night I pass by my local mitsubishi dealership "Rockville Mitsubishi", their parts department is the best there. I pick up my parts and while walking out I see a nice 06' white MR. So I was like what the hell, I'll check it out really quick.

WOW, was I glad that I looked at the price!!! This dealership is known for stuff like this but DAMN!! To the left of the original stickered price they had the usual add on sheet. Base price is $36,894, which we all know that you can get this cheaper elsewhere. So I keep reading, there is other add ons, but what caught me was the "Dealer Mark Up" $5,500 ....... OUCH!!!

So I went back to the car and snap a few pics with my crappy camera phone, just so I can show it to you guys and tell you what NOT to do at dealerships!!! I started laughing in front of one of the sales person and just plain out said "NO FA**ING WAY" and just kept on walking with a smile. Its incredible how dealers are still doing this, it does not justify it. Its a bit hard to see in the pics but the total price they wanted for the MR was $42,494.00

The dealership doesn't expect to get that markup. They are just hoping the one idiot in 1000 will buy the car with the markup shown on the window, instead of negotiating it away. I'll bet if you went into that dealership serious about buying the car, you could get it for MSRP or less.

That is uterly ridiculous, but more power to that dealership if they can sell the MR for that price!

Last year during summer i was visiting Portland OR. Dealer mark up was $5k. Across the river into Washington, dealer mark up was $10k. This is the first time i had ever seen an Evo up close and the dealer told me, "It doesn't matter how much we mark it up, I guarantee this car will be sold with in 2 days" and walked away. Hmmm?

I paid $300 over invoice ($1500 discount from MSRP) for my '04 RS. IX's will soon be available at good deals, if they aren't already. All you do is insist that you don't pay dealer markup. They won't let a hot prospect leave the lot.

Trust me I defenitely know how the game is played, my bro was a sales manager for a while at Honda. Its just funny that they still try and get away with it. I am just trying to educate others not to fall for this.

These dealers with big markups don't sell a lot of EVOs. You might be looking at the only car they will get all year, and they want it sitting there to bring in traffic that might buy other models.

Dealerships that actually SELL a lot of EVOs get bigger allocations of EVOs from MMNA, and they move them by giving good deals. Huntington Beach (Calif.) Mitsu for example.

If you pay for the mark up u are a retard, the mark up is there just for show like someone said one in a 1000 will just pay it because they have no skillz in negotiation. Otherwise do not pay over MSRP

They are already here! Look at my signature! Not exactly what you got on your RS but if you are looking for an MR I have the deal for you!

Best regards,

I'd like to trade my 2004 Audi B6 S4 6MT sedan, Nogaro Blue with blue Alcantara interior and premium package, and only 21,000 miles, for a new 2006 EVO IX MR Graphite Gray.

However, I haven't got a decent trade-in offer for the Audi. It's leased, so I don't expect to have much equity, but I also don't think I should be in a deep hole on it.

The deal is - if you start with a huge mark up, a customer thinks he's doing well by paying sticker. Smart way to start a negotiation. I've been looking at Mustangs and they played the same trick.

This guy is selling for $32,461.47 for '06 MR's. Buy a plane ticket and drive it back, you'll save yourself a few thou.
