Sorry to hear you wrecked your evo, but glad you're alright.

Think maybe it's time to change your screen name? The lord works in mysterious ways you know....

Emre
I went through two winters with my stock Advans on my 2003 Evo and never had a single problem, granted I never drove in the ice or snow. I did however drive in the freezing temps and could tell the difference in time for the Advans to get up to temperature, but never had a problem with traction after they got there.

Maybe I am just not pushing the car as hard as some of you on the streets? Maybe some people aren't used to driving AWD vehicles?

I just don't think that the Advans can be blamed for every single accident in the Evo during the winter, although I do see the benefit of switching to All Season or Winter tires. These comments are just a general statement, and is not directed at the author of this thread.

Sorry to hear. I did the exact same thing with my evo 7. I always wondered what if i didn't lock countersteer in that type of fishtail situation. A lot of "whats if's" went through my mind but in the end it, it was a lesson learned.

AWD has nothing to do with accidents like these unless you want to consider that the added traction allows asshats to accelerate more quickly than the conditions, prudence or driving skill should allow. If anything, AWD is a mitigating factor but just because you may own a rally inspired automobile doesn't mean that you can drive like Gilles Panizzi on the street.

Advans aren't the cause of any of these types of accidents. The cause is misjudgement on the part of the inexperienced driver. The absurdly poor traction provided by ice cold Advans on a wet roads are a major contributing factor that the typical driver is not accustomed to taking into consideration.
DevilsEvo666, I'm sorry to hear your new ride got hosed. Good luck.

I personally believe in parking lot practice. I've spent countless hours in empty parking lots throughout the years with my DSMs and then the Evo putting them in just about every slide and skid I could think of. It worked wonders for my driving skills and confidence. I couldn't imagine not having an AWD on the ice and snow!

I disagree, driving an AWD vehicle is a lot different than FWD or RWD. You accelerate through the turn to get more traction, which for some people is a foreign concept. In most cases when a person starts loosing traction, giving the car more gas is the last thing on their mind.

sorry this happened. but i do have to say.

Will my insurance policy increase this month or next.

More people get these cars that dont know how to drive them responsibly and crash. I mean come on, to crash this car u have to be doing something really stupid or just aim at a wall and peg the gas.

I told you to get winter tires on it the first time you posted when you got the car

I think everyone will agree it is an expensive lesson but you are walking away from it. too many friends didn't get a second chance

I dont know why ppl think that u have to go insanely fast or do sumthin really stupid to crash an evo...Most cars will react the same as mine did last nite in similar conditions disregarding awd rwd of fwd...it doesnt matter....it was a normal street with one lane traffic in either direction...just cuz the air temp was 50 degrees doesnt mean the ground temp was 50f...there was a considerable amount of fog and the ground was really wet...Some ppl just dont understand....This coulda been alot worse though...
