0-60 vs 5-60
Why are 0-60 times faster than 5-60? I was reading some car mag yesterday and again noticed that stat. Can someone explain this to my simple mind? And yes, I searched (and I think our search engine SUCKS).

I'm no expert, but I think the answer is simply because to be rolling at 5mph means you are doing about 1000 RPM in 1st gear. It will take forever to spool up! Alternatively, at 0 you can launch the car and keep the RPMs up, thereby getting into boost much sooner and thus much more power.
Anyway, that's my take on it.

I can always find what im looking for, learn how to use it, its a good tool.

and from my yahoo search it sounded like it comes down to available torque at low RPM.

If you're doing 5 MPH, you're in gear and tied up with the RPM related w/ that gear. Unless of course but I do not believe the test is done with a rolling 5 MPH then allow you to step in the clutch... rev the motor and launch the car from 5 mph. If so, then the numbers for 5 MPH might even be faster than from 0 mph.
But from the stop, you can rev up the motor, play w/ the clutch and maybe get some clutch slip in there and launch the car like a sling shot. That is something you cannot do when you're in gear doing 5 mph.
You should try both and you'll understand why it's slower to go from 5 mph to 60 when compared to 0-60.

If you have not seen the Evo FQ vs. Lambo video, it will help. They had an Evo race an econo box from a top gear roll (6th at 30). The Evo was slaughtered. The same Evo that had "outrun" the Lambo on the track. Same think from a roll to 60. If you let the clutch out at 4,500 rpms vs around 1200rpms from a roll, The one that launched off from a stop will get there quicker. Drive an S2000 for a better example, start from a roll, and you'll have time to read the paper before you get to 60. Get the revs up and launch, and you'll only get the headlines.

think about this.. if you launch @ 6500 rpm, your rps drop to about 4k worst case. your in full spool and almost out of 1st egar instantly. that is why evos can get 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. The 4wd launch is pretty amazing. if you start @ 1k rpm, not only do you have to rev all teh way through to 7200, you also make arround 120 hp untill about 3k rpm.

What sucks is patronizing some guy with a legitimate question. I could understand your nasty reply if this was another one of those "What exhaust should I buy" threads, but come on. BTW, I tried a search and didn't some up with an answer.
