Just to put things on the same table and just to illustrate you how each car performed to the mods:
Back in 04 I took my WRX to the local track, this was before I did the big turbo conversion plus UTEC, plus injectors, plus tunning etc, etc
03WRX(remember, before the turo upgrade but tons of mods):
Turbo XS Upipe(deletes cat number 1) $199
TurboXS mbc $79
TurboXS BOV $179
TurboXs TMIC $925
HKS 3" Dp(deletes cat number 2 and 3) $179
Greddy EvoII catback $535
Injen CAI $310
Borla headers $330
STI scoop $149
GT specs scoop splitter
best ever 13.80@98.99 average 13.9-14 @96-99mph
Evo 8 MR
Same track with just a CAI and a Works DP($450)
13.4@104
No contest here.

Now for all the people that say to do a jdm swap are you guys kidding me. Between the price of the motor and trany and the install he can get the used evo and he would still be better off. You guys are just giving bad advice. I looked into it before the trade in on my wrx for the evo and in the long run you lose. I could care less if he gets the evo or not but telling him that the coversion is the way to go is just not the truth. Do the reaserch and then give the advice.

I'm curious though, is it an Sti or a WRX? You've got Sti emblems. If it's a WRX, definitely get the evo. If it's an Sti, forget what I've said. You're moving sideways rather than vertically (that is if you don't want to mod the car).

Phenix fyah, nice quote their in the signature, and I meant every word of it
*Edit so I can add to the post: I agree with everyone, first and foremost, drive both. Second, decide what you want. Do you want a fast car, very high potential, good handeling, etc? Or do you want to ahve money in your pocket to go out, do as you please, and a car that looks very nice and is rare?
Honestly I believe you cannot go wrong either way. I do think the biggest factor should be your financial position. If the payments are going to strain you, then you will be working more to pay for the Evo, which means no $$ to mod and no time to drive and enjoy. Not worth it in my opinion.

As someone who owned a STI for 6 months, there is no comparison.
If you want the closest thing to a modern homologated car, go for the Evo.
"The best 4 seat roadcar since the original BMW E30 M3."
-The STI has a slight torque advantage with the extra displacement and is better suited for larger(wider) drivers.
The Evo has:
-Quicker turn in, lighter feel and a bullet proof bottom end that is a tuner's dream.
-better seats, steering wheel, better wing, well positioned intercooler.
-WRC spec 2.0 liter
In '02 we saw many WRX's on the track at Laguna, Thunderhill and Infineon. Now after bottom end issues, most of those track junkies have Evo's.

I think that if you like to do any minor work to your cars, go with the Evo. My brother had a STI and he said that it is harder to work on. With just the standard bolt - ons and a dyno tune you are in for a heck of a ride with the Evo. There are good things about both cars. I like the Suby but I have to stay true to the Evo.
