MR roof swap (aluminum to steel)

I went down to local dealership and checked out the MR. Only problem is it doesn't have clips for a roof rack on the aluminum roof. The steel IX roof does have the clips. I really need the roof rack (take my word on this one).

Any ideas how to swap roofs? Is there a roof rack that fits on the door sills of an MR or something? Maybe I could install clips on the aluminum roof. Thanks

Since when does the Evo 9 have a steel roof panel?

Ever since 2005, ALL Evo's, the MR, RS and the GSR have an aluminum roof.

I'll admit defeat with proof otherwise.

Nah, the GSRs have a steel roof. Only the RS and MR versions have the aluminum roof. Remember that the SSL w/sunroof requires a steel roof. The non-SSL doesn't get the aluminum roof.

Because of it being an aluminum roof, it cannot support a roof rack. It would be a terrible decision to purchase an MR/RS then switch on a steel roof. It's not just something you "plug'n'play," but I obviousy can't give first-hand testimonial. I've only heard of GSR owners trying to switch to the aluminum roof, not vice versa...

It's not supposed to. That's a special feature on the RS and MR.

Now answer your PMs!

Can't swap, the aluminum is pressed to the frame and then rivited, if you watched best motoring and they show you the evo being assembled in the japan factory, they mention that as well as show a video about how difficult it was to mold and attach the alum roofs

why is the topic of this thread 'hood' swap when you guys are obviously talking about roofs?

Didn't the RRE road coarse racer (can't recall his name) successfully swap these out?

For the money and effort involved, I'd think it would be a lot easier to replace the roof with a fiberglass panel.

What are you going to put on the Evo? Snowboards? If so, I'd pull the back seat and run the boards down the middle like I used to do in one of my older cars.

You got ripped off on your evo purchase, check your sales guy for selling you or claimed you have an aluminum roof. Only RS and MR has the AL roof.

Maybe you can edit your topic, you said swap aluminum hood to steel on your topic header instead of the aluminum roof to steel.

Can't edit topics once the thread is created, unfortunately. If you try to, it only changes it in this view, but not in the forum view.
